I think when this F707 heat finally cools down, we'll begin to examin its flaws. I'm taking this rapid cool down and try to examine it's warts and all:

Like many others, I can't live with F707's over blown RED, and the GOCS (green cast) problem. I really wish they have saturation control and perhaps even tint control (red or green, we take our picks). The F707 has boosted the green so much that many pictures came out tinted with green. At first glance you many not notice the green on the F707 (or S75/85 for that matter). But if you have another camera taking the same picture to compare with, you'll find the F707's pictures have a greenish tint to them. I know because I've done just that with S70/75 and I see the F707 repeating the GOCS problem on the S75.

I'm also a bit tired of MS; limited capacity and relatively high price. Good if you commit everything to Sony (MP3 player, AIBO, VAIO notebook, mini-DV camcorder).

So far, our two advocates of the "King" (Pondria and Ulysses) have not expressed commitment to the "New King". Ulysses have told me via email that he's satisifed 85% with the King and probably 90% with the New King. Wow! You mean F707 has done so much only to increase satisifaction for another 5%? And not even a 10%?

I've no digicam right now, however, I've used F505, S70, S75 and to say at least I'm not sure with the F707 myself. It does have compelling features, but I'm seeing that other problems are beginning to surface. I just found that the F707 may have more lens abberation around the edges (less sharp). See the crayon shots (G2 vs F707) and the watch macro shot, around the edges.

I also agree with Pondria that the New King is not as cool looking and does lose some sex appeal (ie: use of black plastic parts, such as the black focus ring). Matt silver + shiny silver = cool. Matt silver + black = not as cool.

I've made no comparison of the G2 vs. F707. If you're using images from different reviews then you're not compariing like with like, different times, subject distances, lighting etc. Those crayon shots are NOT designed to be used outside of the review.

I was just reading the G2 review here. How is this different from the settings you used on the F707? I saw the comparison Angela posted here. The G2 crayon shot looks a lot better.

Well how does one explain the definite drop-off in sharpness toward the edge in the F707 test scene cf the G2 test scene then ? It was quite apparent on examining the text on the batteries in particular when the files were printed.

All I'm saying is that unless I specifically compare one camera to another you can't use the scene shot from one review to the next, the scene changes, I move things around, the lights can be in slightly different positions as can the tripod.

I don't have the F707 here and so I can't do a comparison to the G2. MAYBE (perhaps) when I get a production F707 I'll do a comparison then.

Just as I've never intended my words via personal e-mail to be used here in the forum. Very bad form, IMO. And taken out of context.

I will not be responding to e-mails intended to "pump" me for information.

Ulysses,

I apologize for posting that information. I guess everyone has very high expectation from the Dark Angel and we all become critical of it.

Still, if you look at the crayon shot, color aside, the image is not as sharp.

The most annoying thing about the crayons shot isn't the
lack of sharpness ( that could be explained ) it's more that the
"overexposed red problem has raised its ugly head again"
as Phil puts it.... The G2 looks definitely better in that respect.

Issues about the camera should be discussed and i think Phil's review was very good and told us alot. I hope Sony improves on the production model. But for all thinking of buying a camera, upgrading, or even thinking of selling their camera to purchase the 707 or any other all issues should be discussed about the good points and the bad points of a camera. I loved the concept of this camera as i did the D7. Because proof is in the pudding and you can see beautiful pictures in the 505v and to make cameras with higher mp's to get more noise, brighten the reds where all children love the firey rainbow colors, why? If they can't make higher mp cameras, with low noise, and features that people want, why even bother making them? I see beautiful pics with the D30 and also the D1h. I hope that Sony can improve on the bad points of this camera but i would rather have the 505v than this, with the drawbacks. Only good thing i see if they do not, is all the companies are fighting hard and trying to improve and Minolta was on the right track with the lens and all the features and so is Sony with their F series camera, but with the major flaws in both as they are, that is tooooooooo much money spent on flaws. I will sit on the sideline and wait longer as to see if Canon will meet me in the middle D30-G1 or if if Sony corrects the flaws in the 707v. I can live with buying 990's, G1's, 505v's used and getting by just fine and then returning them to Ebay, getting most of my money back and stepping up to the plate when a camera is worth the $1,000 to $2,000 they cost. I also want to thank everyone for making these forums happen and how informative this site is. I also want to thank Phil for the site and his great informative reviews that educates all of us on each camera, of the good he sees and also the flaws and yes he is a very good judge at both on these issues. Well i am back off to the drawing board waiting on the next big camera comming down the line. But i haven't given up completely on the 707 and i have my fingers crossed about final production models but then again, i had them crossed on the final production of the D7.

Oh, please. Are we taking ourselves a bit too seriously I wonder? I promise not to email you trying to pump you for the really valuable information i'm certain you and you alone possess.

On second thought we can always cover the reds up, or take pictures of everything that has no red in it.

OK OK. My apologies. I'm a bit grumpy this morning. But still . . . can't we just all get along?
