Old farm workflow...

For the Ron's ; )

Here are the steps I took to arrive at the final "Old farm" image. To answer the "did you use actions" question, no, I didn't.

1 - Original color image:

2 - Adjusted to bring out the clouds. I used selective color to darken the cyans and blues:

3 - Converted to b+w. I used the channel mixer:

4 - Burned and dodged to add a bit of drama and depth:

5 - Adding texture. I used overlay and vivid light blends on the texture layers:

6 - Toning. I used curves here:

9 - Placed original color image on top in color mode and lowered the opacity to reduce saturation a bit:

10 - Adjusting the colors and burning in the edges. I used curves, but color balance or selective color will work also.

11 - Load the shadows, place on top, set blend mode to Screen and lower the opacity. To load the shadows, activate the merged layer and hold the Ctrl+Alt+~ keys. Then invert by hitting Ctrl+shift+I.

This technique is very versatile. I use it frequently for different effects. A better description than I could give is located here:

11 - From this point, I just did a little more color tweaking, burning and dodging and straightened the horizon for the final image:
