I know I've posted a couple of images of BB King in concert but they were BW.. tonight he was back at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth to a sold out house. Just wanted to share a color shot...

This is one of about 100 shots I took Saturday night of B.B. King performing at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth.

ISO 800
70-200L 2.8
Canon 20D

Concert shots are one of my favorite things to shoot but the lighting is always a challenge. Tonight the lighting guy was kind and kept the magentas and blues to a minimum.

I've owned the D30, 10D and now the 20D. The 20D has been my best camera to date for shooting concerts... of course a lot of credit needs to go to the 70-200 IS.. that image stabilization helps a lot.

WONDERFUL shot of BB - you will treasure it!! Any problem getting into the venue with the big white?

Nice shot. I'd love to get some concert shots. I'm also curious to hear if you received any hassles about bringing in such a camera and lens. The 70-200 with IS will be my next lens.

Jim,
Your photos continue to impress and inspire. Please keep 'em coming.
I look forward to your answer about bringing the 70-200 into a venue.

I thought our 20D has banding issues at 800 ISO.
How come this image is so clear?

Jim,
Would you mind sharing EXIF on this one? Also, any noise reduction?

beautifully captures a moment in time. nice composition, framing, exposure. concert photography isn't easy (I've only tried once). Well done.

Magnificent.

I am able to get into venues with the gear I have, including the big white lens, because I know most of the club owners or I am there shooting for various radio stations.

For example, I have a 12 hour concert to shoot today from noon until about 11pm tonight.. Robert Earl Keen is the headliner but there are about 12 artist involved throughout the day.

When shooting in venues like Billy Bob's Texas.. or maybe I should just say when shooting under club or nighttime lighting I always shoot manually. I usually use ISO 800 and roll the shutter speed and aperature according to what the lighting guy is doing and the DOF I am looking for... but I usually end up shooting around 180 at F4.

Banding? I have never experienced it once with the 20D.

Noise Reduction? Just what is in the camera.

Processing? Photoshop CS... Auto color, Levels, contrast and a little USM

Please make no mistake, this image is not right out of the camera.. I had time to post process one shot last night before I hit the bed around 2:30am... I'm running on about 4 hours sleep and have to leave for today's concert in about an hour.

I have some other good shots of members of the band and Bobby Bland as well but will not have time to work on them until Monday.

Shot the Blues last night and shooting Country today.. I'm already tired.

Here is the EXIF data for this shot:
