Can the EF-S 17-85 4-5.6 IS USM do the job?
Hi. I own a Canon EOS-20D and, left over from my EOS A2E, have one EF 75-300 1.4 – 5.6 and one EF 28-80 3.5 – 5.6.
The pictures I make are nice, but they don’t even approach the crispness I see in, e.g., magazine ads. That’s the kind of picture I want to make. So I’ve been looking at lens write-ups.
I want the wide range of zoom so I don’t have to haul lenses around. I’ve been considering particularly the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, especially because it’s supposed to be the equivalent of 27-136 on a 35mm film camera.
I worry that such a range may result in soft rather than crisp focus, especially at the longer end.
Please give me advice and experiences about the quality of pictures this lens can handle. THANKS!
