To be fair on your example, cameras seem to open up the aperture all the way before getting into the realm of slow shutter speeds and high ISOs and I doubt the F10 is any exception (testimonials anyone?).

One solution to your problem is this: whenever you encounter a situation where you're not happy with the high ISO setting chosen, just manually set it yourself in the menu. Sure it's fiddly but I somehow doubt it'll be a problem most of the time.
