Most good, some quirks, the killer is Autofocus Sucks!!

Guys, Gonzo is a troll, but he is a very strange troll in that
Phil openly allows him to come to this forum and harrass us.
Phil's blessing means we can do nothing about this guy.
Just don't read his posts. I looked at the E-10 before he
bought his and decided it was an over priced toy. In any
other forum, with any other poster, we could turn to Phil
for help. In this case, we are stuck with post after post
from this OLY fanatic.
Some software quirks such as magnification in playback mode does
not work all the time. I have to shut the camera off and turn it
back on for it to work.
I have had this exact problem several times since I got my unit on
Monday. Anyone know of a fix/workaround? The magnify button just
beeps and does nothing.

-- Gary O

Could it be a TIFF or Raw shot? I don't think that you can zoom in on those.

Well I know that > I
his D7 (i.e. autofocus fast enough to catch candids at full
telefoto), so that's evidence enough for me.
And there we have it. In the end it is all about > you

You noted elsewhere in this thread something to the effect of making people aware of the E-10 who might not have been aware of it before. By now, all praise to your sterling efforts in this regard, they're surely well aware of the E-10. So why not don the full mantle of E-10 boosterism and scuttle back over to the Oly SLR forum, awaiting their arrival? I'm sure they'll be anticipating this rendezvous as much as you are. Breathlessly, even.

[An aside to readers who are new to photography -- please consider this advice from someone who is not new to photography: when you see messages of the sort quoted above, note that they amount to Mine's Bigger Than Yours. Such people have little to tell you about photography; they are posting messages for some other reason entirely. Perhaps at times they have useful technical information to pass along -- but usually they don't. When they start playing the Mine's Bigger Than Yours tune, stop_listening . You will learn nothing from that stuff aside from what the participant in question thinks is bigger than someone else's. All such messages are essentially the same message. They do not merit your attention.]

[What is it, anyway, with these people who go into forums having nothing to do with the cameras they themselves own, and "subtly" or otherwise pan other manufacturers' equipment? What the hell do they get from doing this, anyway? Does one need to undergo some sort of age-regression in order to understand the phenomenon?]

Don't you think that if somebody were interested in the opinion of
an E10
user he just would ask his question over there?
Gonzo, altruistic to the end, replied:
Not if that person were not 1) aware of the existence of the E-10
or 2) aware of the benefits the E-10 has to offer.
Ah, so it's one of those Save The World kinds of things. Entirely selfless. All to help the benighted find their way through the dark swamps of their digital ignorance. You must actually believe your readers are dumb enough to believe such disingenuous, self-serving nonsense.
The original post was directed at Murray and Murray only, who could
hardly have been "antagonized" by it because he obviously is
dissatisfied with the D7 and is now searching out a better camera.
Never mind that you posted a publicly accessible message rather than send Murray e-mail -- even though the post was directed to "Murray and Murray alone." How convincing.

Everyone has the right to say his or her opinion. If you don't like what he says just don't read it or ignore him.

Want to see how fast I would be banned if I went to the
Nikon SLR forum and started telling them that the D-7 was
better than their camera? Or if I went to the Canon SLR
forum? Phil is sponsering this troll doing what is specifically
against the rules on this site. Why, I don't know. I suspect it
is because Phil doesn't like this camera.

P.S. A post to Murray would have no use in the Oly forum, as his
post is right here. I resent your attempts to censor me ;)
If, as you suggest, your object in posting here is to provide advice to Murray, then why not e-mail him by using the address provided in his profile.
Dave Roberts
P.S. You didn't answer the question as to what your doctorate is specific to.

Well, my take on it is that Phil allows you to say anything as long as it is not a personal attack. The previous episodes with a Certain Other Poster Who's Name Cannot Be Mentioned Least It Draw The Horrible Wrath Of The Gods down on me illustrates this. This poster was on a positve crusade about a certain brand of camera that makes the Dr. look quite mild, and posted lengthy "lists" of misquotes (including some of my own words taken out of context) and horribly biased predictions and analysis. I don't think that he was ever actually banned. His Gonzoship is careful not to cross the line into personal insult, which Phil does not tolerate. I don't think that Phil will ban you if you go over there and tell some other forum hat the D7 is a pro camera or that it is better at sports than the D1H, but if you start calling names or inventing facts about how the D7 will also boil coffee (actually, maybe it will if a CF card can burn you) then there might be some sparks. You try it though, I don't want to find out. I'll cover you from here ;)

When I get to a posting from someone that I don't want to read, I just skip it, although the way that this board is set up makes that hard to do. I also make a special effort not to repond, although nobody is perfect.

I actually could be accused of many of the things that Gonzo
is accused of in the Canon forum, as I am an outspoken critic
of the G-1. The difference is that I own and use the G-1. I
can back up what I say with images, and can explain the specific
problems. Gonzo seems to post every other posting in many
threads here, doesn't own the camera, and doesn't seem
interested in owning the camera. He stated his goal earlier in
this thread. To make sure everyone knows about the E-10.

Much of what the Gonz does SHOULD be done in the open forum.
That's a great place to debate one camera vs another.
Sorta why Phil designed it. It's sorta OPEN.
As opposed to the Minolta forum. Designed for all things Minolta.

I would invite the Gonz to join the Sony Talk Forum.
We are not nearly as polite to people who come in and bash our cameras.

The main reason the gonz is still here is because the members want it that way!

Most of his postings (Mine is bigger than yours-as pointed out by MikeA)

are utterly, completely and fully not appropriate in a branded forum as pointed out by Andreas and others.

(OTOH, if you think they ARE appropriate then I suggest that 3 or 4 of us go over to the OLY forum and practice what the Gonz' preaches......let's help those poor undereducated fellows in their hour of need......Don't use any bad words....no personal attacks....just be as frustrating as hell about how superior the D7 is to the E10......over and over again...I can assure you the Phil will show you what "appropriate" is.)

If the members don't want the Gonz here, than a few Emails to Phil with some of the most flagrant examples will be very effective.

If you have not asked Phil to intervene, then you shouldn't be fighting with Gonzo....you have given tacit approval of him running A-B coamparisons with the e10 in the most unbiased form he knows.

I don't want him to go away because he is biased toward the E10.
He should be, for two good reasons.
1- He's a loyal/happy owner

2- Reflecting it's consdierable more money for considerable less features....it's a better basic camera.

I want him to go away because I am trying to learn all I can about the D7. He is fouling the water. I don't give a rats ass about the e10. I can't/won't afford one.

I wouldn't recommend that. Most of those folks are right nice. Gonzornicating in that forum would be punishing them for the sins of only one participant who makes a bandwidth-wasting nuisance out of himself (yes, I plead guilty to not ignoring him when I should). Wrong thing to do...

The foul little bugger is only here because you guys pay attention to him - I stopped reading his drool two weeks ago. Stop reading his posts, he has nothing of value to contribute. You are right - he is here because some of you want it that way. If you didn't, you wouldn't respond and he would go away. Fools don't perform without an audience. Anybody seen a mime' lately?

Don't feed the troll. Ignorance was, is and will be for ever the best way to remove these people. That was true in 1988 when I started reading news in usenet and is still true with the current point&click people.
Just believe me...

Yep. I got this from time to time too. Seems to happen when going from, say, setup to play. Didn't happen often but definately happened.

I believe zoom does not work in QV mode - anyone confirm that?
