Hey Gang -

I'm considering replacing both my 70-200 f4/L and 300mm f4/L lens with Sigma's new 100-300 f4 HSM. I played with the lens a little bit in a local camera store, and was amazed at the speed of the autofocus (no difference between the Sigma and the Canon lenses I have - Sigma perhaps even a touch faster), and after reading all the positive things about image quality,

My rationale:
  • I don't think I'd be giving up anything (other than 30mm in focal length).
  • I'd be reducing overall travel weight slightly, and would be able to get the range in a single lens
  • I'd be able to use the difference in $$ (the Sigma lens would cost less than I'd sell the 2 lenses for) to buy another lens :)
I'm also considering doing the same thing, and going for a Sigma 24-70 2.8 Macro instead of my EF-S 17-85 IS. Then I'd add Canon's 10-22 lens

Does anyone see any flaw in my logic? Thoughts??

Giving up IS?????!!!!!
Yeah, if I get rid of the 17-85IS in favor of the Sigma 24-70 2.8. I figure that the IS doesn't have as much an advantage in the shorter focal lengths, and the faster speed of the Sigma lens should more than make up for it.
