Absolutely dead on Barry. I have a G-1. The correct answer
to the problem with the auto mode working is, "This is a
camera for advanced users, it should not have an auto mode
anyway". If you take a picture of a red rose, and it is so
blown out that it can not be corrected, the correct response
is, "All digicams have trouble with red highlights. Here is a 30
minute workflow in a 600$ program to restore the image. See,
it really isn't a problem." If you question why it over exposes
every image, the correct response is, "The metering is doing exactly
what it is supposed to do. Carry a light meter or a gray card and
spot meter. Use the exposure comp to adjust to the highlights."
When it doesn't focus on the 6 inch rose bloom 10 inches in front
of it's lens when on a tripod, but instead on the background 10
feet behind the shot, that is normal contrast focusing and you
need to put a business card in the bloom and focus on the contrast
between the card and the lettering. Did I mention that this is
a highly rated, highly recommended camera? They all have
problems. They all have quirks. In the end, what fits your purpose
and is comfortable to you is the correct choice. Image quality
is the only real criterion other than that.

Hey you lot.

Stop and think. Given all the faults of the D7 would you buy a car
with as many faults as the Dimage 7?

I am looking at a shot from my "highly recommended" S-10 the
people 5 feet from the camera are blue. The people six feet away
from the camera are yellow. I don't know what color the people are
who are 8 feet from the camera, because they are out of flash
range...

Could you please point me towards the digital camera without
faults? Take your time, I will be sitting right here in Bibble
trying to get this ruddy orange cast out of the skin tones of my
D-1 pictures.

While you are at it, point me towards the camera without faults
that has mechanically linked zoom and focus, with 28mm on the wide
end and 7X zoom.

I'd be very supprosed if you would. So why a camera? [?]
