Re: Cold, hard reality sets in...

MikeA,

Photoshop can convert from one colorspace to another. It is like translating Spanish to English. The problem comes in that Minolta has invented a new language. They haven't explained the new language to anyone else yet, including Adobe. Therefore, no one else knows how to interpret it into a known colorspace such as Adobe RGB 1998, sRGB, NTSC 1953, etc. Given a bit of time, someone will be able to decipher the color gamut and accurately do the conversion. Look to someone like Mike Chaney (Qimage Pro) to be one of the first to accomplish this feat. What he needs is a financial incentive. That means Minolta needs to sell a bunch of these cameras. I'm anxiously awaiting mine.

A friend to whom I mentioned the color-space issue remarked: "Isn't
this easily enough dealt with after you've opened the file in
Photoshop?" Not that I know much about Photoshop yet, but: I
suppose that given the appropriate profile (if available from
Minolta or some other source) that would work, yes? I don't think
it would work in PS Elements, which seems to have only three
selections in its (apparently non-configurable) color space dialog;
I don't know if PS LE is any more capable than that. But PS
"proper" has such controls.

But are D7 users limited, finally and forever, to using the Minolta
app for the color-space conversion?
