Yes, I've seen it in the 'bright' mode too. But the sky noise is still less than the D70. The joke however is that even with this aggressive sharpening on the DS, the images still appear 'out of focus'. I later took the same shot in RAW, sharpened in Photoshop and the images are superbly sharp with no sky noise, no sharpening halos. Amazing. The issue is of course the sizes of the Pentax RAW files... Sigh.... Glad we can discuss these things outside the Pentax forum where we won't get bashed for voicing our opnions.

But the truth is no one (not Nikon/Pentax/Oly/Minolta) comes remotely close to Canon in the department of jpeg quality for DSLRs. It's amazing. This means with the Canon, one at least has the choice between RAW & jpeg. With the other brands, this choice is really not even there...
