I am planning to get a DS and would like to know whether there is a

the kit lens or the 16-45).

You can create photographs with a "wide angle perspective" using a DS and nearly any lens shorter than a 24mm focal length. I'd reach for a 14mm, myself, but it's not required ... I just happen to prefer an extreme wide field when I'm working with such compositions, it seem whatever lens returns me a 90 degree diagonal field of view is what I'm after. Unfortunately, the only way to know which one does the right thing for you is to buy one and work with it for a while, see what your compositions do.

I've listed below a field of view table for lenses from 14mm to 20mm on the D/DS. Between 16mm and 18mm is about a 7 degree diagonal difference. With this you have some data to work with...

*istD/DS format approx:
-----------------------
Width = 16 mm
Length = 24 mm
Diagonal = 28.84 mm

"f" below is the Focal Length.
Field of View is in degrees.

f - Hor - Vert - Diag
---------------------------
14.0 - 81.2 - 59.4 - 91.7
15.0 - 77.3 - 56.1 - 87.7
16.0 - 73.7 - 53.1 - 84.0
17.0 - 70.4 - 50.4 - 80.6
18.0 - 67.3 - 47.9 - 77.4
19.0 - 64.5 - 45.6 - 74.4
20.0 - 61.9 - 43.6 - 71.5
