Metering hair light .... yes I searched and .....

......saw varying comments. I have been taught a specific way to meter my lights and I am learning to use this tool in context with the results I want. Others meter differently and produce impressive results.

This posted queston is specifically regarding hair lights and incident meter (dome) positioning. I meter with the front of the dome pointed straight at the hair light (usually with barndoors). My bias is to err towards 'less', rather than 'more' accent/hair light.

Some posts have suggested pointing the meter at the light, but with the dome turned down (I guess, toward the hair). If less is better (obviously in the judgement of the artist) won't this meter position tend to measure less light, and therefore suggest a higher light setting?

Please add your valued comment regarding the most effective way to meter this particular strobe output.
