Re: MY Attitude: Goodbye Canon

well i'm sure that in much less than 2 years there will a lot better for same price. However in the meantime - the focus problem on the G1 is very common, and serious.

I have mine for about three months, took about 5500 shots, and now often when I zoom all the way I get a msg in the LCD saying Lens and the camera shuts off!

I with more of the top line models out there (sony, olympus) would support the MD, its the only thing that for now has me locked into the G1.

The 995 does play nicely with the MD according to the promotional
material. However, if you ever have the need to take a
portrait-style shot above your head or below your knees you will
find that the Nikon body design won't permit you to see the LCD
easily. That was one of the frustrating things with my old CP950.

I'm planning on waiting for 2 or 3 years, then re-evaluatiing the
market. I'm sure it will be far more advanced than anything
avilable now (in the same price range), and I believe I can live
with the quirks (or defects, depending on POV) of my Iron Maiden.

I'm in similar situation. But the only camera that I can look at
seems to be the coolpix 995, as I need the Micro Drive. I have yet
to check if the MD does actualy work w/the 995
Otherwise I am in a statemate right now waiting for someone to come
out w/a good digicam that support the MD

I am personally sick and tired of dealing with the G1 being out of
focus; of the G1 refusing to cooperate with standard gear or even
Canon's own gear; and of Canon's almost Microsoft-like attitude
against its customers (akin to the attitude of cigarette makers,
who view their customers as property). I've worked quite a lot with
the camera. I am a professional shooter and cinematographer and I
know what I'm doing. I've used Canon gear since the mechanical F-1.
I made web sites and solicited help, spoke to Canon techs on
numerous occasions all over America, and really believed that it
was just a matter of me learning to use the camera adroitly that
would make it as capable as, say, and Argus C-3. But it's not. The
G1 is so full of bugs and dead-ended broken features that my
patience with it is really at an end. Watch for mine (along with a
550EX and a wireless controller) on Ebay or in the Honolulu
newspapers soon. I'm buying something else.
