Good point about the fit on 420EX. I don't have such problem with my Sunpak 383, which has groved custom fit. You have all the info you need now, Linda. Just go for it.

Hi Linda--

The OmniBouce is very good. I also use a LumiQuest 80/20 bounce
kit; I believe the kit is now called the ProMax System. You can
see a description at
http://www.lumiquest.com/promax.htm#lq931d . They have also
recently announced an attachment very much like the Sto-Fen
OmniBounce, called the UltrBounce; see
http://www.lumiquest.com/bouncers.htm#lq001d for more info. One of
the main advantages over the OmniBounce (IMHO) is the ability to
use the same fastenings as the Pro-Max system, essentially velcro
straps mounted on the flash head. The Sto-Fen OmniBounce is
designed to fit snugly over the head of the flash w/o anything
holding it but the tight fit. I use an OmniBounce frequently and
I'm very happy with it, but I'll probably get the UltraBounce soon
since in crowded situations the OmniBounce has been knocked loose a
few times.

Personally, I think the velcro of the Pro-Max (and now the
UltrBounce), while not as clean-looking as the flash head by
itself, has provided additional protection from bangs and bumps.

Whichever product you choose you will be very pleased with the
results. I posted earlier today a pic taken using a 420EX bounced,
with Pro-Max system with diffusion screen mounted. I have posted
it here again for your examination of lighting quality. You will
notice that there is absolutely NO searchlight look, nor are there
deep shadows in eye sockets and under chins as is sometimes seen in
pics with straigh bounce and no additional diffusion. The result
is definitely much better:

Especially, since there is an internal flash like you suggest!
I'll try to take a look at the Sto-fen Omnibounce.
Is there also a diffuser that would be appropriate for let's say
shooting candids at a gathering?
Thanks for all the good advice.
