Are you going to keep you 300D when you move "up"?

I was thinking of taking the 300D along with a different lens when I get the 20D, but I'm afraid the speed of the 20D plus the different location of some of the settings will just confuse and frustrate me.

How many of you have both and use them both at the same time?

I'm leaning towards selling the 300D and want to make sure I don't make a mistake.

going to pick up a 20D in a couple of weeks and I plan on keeping my 300D. I will keep the 70-200 or 100-400 on the 20D and I will keep the 100 macro lens on the 300D with the 17-40 close by. My thinking is to walk with the 20D in hand and the 300D in a bag such as a toploader 75 fron Lowepro.

I have no plans to move up yet. I think I will wait for another generation at least. However, I have no plans to sell the drebel. I remember years ago when I had two exakta bodies slung around my neck, one with a tele lens and the other a normal lens. I have missed a lot of shots because it took too much time to swap lens. By the time I got my tele lens on, the thing I was trying to photograph disappeared.

I don't have plans to move up in a near future simply because I can't afford it and at this time my priority is to achieve a good set of lenses. But when I move up (in a few years, probably when something to replace the 20D is out) my budget will determine if I sell the 300D or not. I'd like not to, but probably will.

Best regards.

I don't intend to upgrade just now as I feel that there's going to be much bigger jumps in technology in the next generation - you only have to look at whats being offered by the competitors new consumer lines, (onboard IS or self clean Sensor etc) I also expect the dynamic range to improve from 12bit to 18/24bits per channel and ISO 6400 will be a usable option.

By that time the 300D will have devalued to the point where it would be better to keep it as a backup as the one important thing it does and will continue to do, is take high quality shots.

I fully intend on keeping my 300D as a hand-me down/backup-up for the 20D I plan on getting this Spring (my 1yr 300D anniversary sniff ). If I recall, you have a pretty extensive collection of digicams already?.. it would be anathema for you to deny the 300D it's honored place in your personal museum of digital history! ;-)

I've given several away to my kids, who aren't as serious about photography as I am.

like you said...the perfect moment you'll see and take a snapshot with your 20D in hand already, taking both with you, checking both for prepared battery, and ...to much...like Andy, maybe is better for another allaround camera not so heavy to take with you, he has an 828...

Eventually I'll upgrade. Right now I'm just waiting as to what early next year has to offer as new products are announced right around Jan-March for the photo convention. By then I would still keep my DR as backup.

I'll move up to the 20D soon (but never soon enough).

My wife has really started showing an interest in photography. Right now she totes around my EOS 650. So she'll get the 300D.

But then there's also my 13 year old son. He's already bought his own Powershot A80, which is great for him. Eventually I'm sure he'll get the 300D as we all keep moving up.

For all of us, a day with a camera in hand is a great day spent together.

for two reasons:

1. As a backup

2. So my daughter will have an SLR to work with when I go shooting wildlife with her.

And I'm glad I did, I have a G2 for emergency back up. Day to day usage, it would be hard to go back to the performance of the Rebel. I loved the Rebel and took a ton of good picture with it but the 20D just performs so much better...Also I sold my Rebel right before the last price drop and rebate, (about two months ago) and it helped fund my 20D.

Isabel, good question...

I have had my 300D for just over a year and have loved using it and been very satisfied with the results, BUT....

I had a wedding to shoot back in September and used that as an excuse to upgrade to a 20D. I didn't want to go without a backup and when all was said and done the 20D made the most sense (opposed to say another 300D or film backup). I shot the 20D as the primary and my wife who assisted me used the 300D for casuals and also helped by handing it off to me for wide angles etc.

It was great having two bodies and lens combinations, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that the 20D just totally outclassed the 300D in this situation.

Before anyone even thinks about saying it-I KNOW THE 20D IS MORE EXPENSIVE, BETTER MADE, AND MORE ADVANCED! That is not my point,

my point is simply that side by side in actual use the 20D is just so much nicer than the 300D in every way it's hard to imagine using the 300D again.

Having said that, as pointed out already the 300D still offers great image quality and isn't a bad camera by any means.

I will probably sell my 300D and I will probably pick up a used 1D as I am getting pretty heavily into sports photography and think the 1D-20D combination will meet my needs better.

Just think, if every key-stroke was a shutter-press we would all be pros by now...

While I was thinking of getting the 20D sometime early next year, I'm having second thoughts. I now qualify for triple rebate on the Rebel and I'm seriously thinking of getting another one. Taking Adorama's price of $780 that would put another Rebel in my hands for $480! That just seems to be too good of a deal to pass up.

My current Rebel has over 21,000 shots on it so it's getting up there. But it's still going strong and I have enjoyed this camera so thoroughly that, for $480, I just might have to get another one.

Maybe I'll get a black one and pretend it's a 20D!

lol...

If you get the chance to handle and try a 20D you'll know IMMEDIATELY why!

I was tempted to move up to the 20D, but am going to stick with the 300D until some time later next year, and not sell it when I eventually do upgrade ... have one camera with me with wide angle on it, and the other with large telephoto .... besides, have became pretty attached to it :-)

My reasons, its a great camera and I'm extremely happy with it ... also when I do upgrade I will be lookiing for something that gives me more peace of mind when shooting when its pretty wet ... so 1D Mk2 or what evers around then is on my mind just now.

Between now and when ever I do get a new camera, Im going to pick up a few good lenses and continue enjoying the 300D.

I have, it's definitely a very nice camera but I don't have wet dreams over it or anything.

There's a number of reasons why I'd like to upgrade to the 20D but the Rebel is a very nice camera also and at $480 for another Rebel, I just can't pass that up.

Besides, buying another Rebel doesn't preclude me from getting a 20D on down the road.

What type of flash did you use on the 2 cameras for the wedding?
