Oly smartmedia card

There is no physical difference between 'regular' and Oly SmartMedia.Is there any difference between regular SmartMedia card and Oly
SmartMedia card? If I need to use panorama function, do I have to
buy a specific Oly SmartMedia card or ...?
The difference is that a hidden memory location on the Oly contains
an identification that the Oly camera must see before allowing you
to use the panorama function. Of course, you don't really need to use
Oly's panorama function to make panoramas. And instructions have
been posted on the Internet that enable anyone with some technical
savvy and a USB SmartMedia reader that comes with a program called
smprep.exe to convert any brand card into Oly brand.
