Re: Canon’s attitude: what do you think?

Canon's customer service definitly need to improve. But at least on this instance Canon's reply I think is right.

Canon make a camera and they make a flash gun to fit on it. You bought a flash-gun which Canon does not support fully ( I say fully as it fires the flash). Now you want Canon to make their camera compatible with your flash gun. That is not correct. What you need to do is ask your camera manufacturer to fix the flash gun. Ask them to release a firmware upgrade to their flash gun. As a matter of fact E-TTL flash technology by canon is quite good. They do a preflash and check the correct exposure before they fire the final flash.

If Sunpak or VIvitar can ask them to come up with a compatible Flash gun instead you asking Canon to give your flash gun a Firmware upgrade.

So Finally Canon's reply is correct. Your question is so irrelevent.

This is what I think Mike. Sorry !

Below is an inquiry I sent to Canon and their reply. Quite frankly
I’m very disappointed in Canon’s attitude. Isn’t
it consumer’s right to expect that their product is to work
properly with “industry-standard” accessories unless
otherwise stated? Please voice your opinion.

Your inquiry as follows: *****
Flash with non-Canon flash is over exposed as if aperture is full
open at 2.0, regardless what the actual aperture setting is.
Flashes used: Vititar 283, Sunpak 383. Can this problem corrected
by sending in, or is Cannon planning to issue a fix via firmware?
Canon response as follows: ******
Dear Michael

Canon only designs, tests and manufactures accessories for our
products. It is therefore up to other manufacturers to meet our
standards and abilities.

Thank you for your inquiry
