I agree, the grip sensor does lnothing detectable on my camera, I leave it turned off.

The AE lock "off" allows you to lock focus as normal by half depressing the shutter without also locking the exposure, leaving that to the separate AE lock button. I don't use it, but I can see it's purpose.

The "program manual" is very odd, I can't imagine anyone wanting to work that way.
