Just bought my EOS 10D, pricing error, my advantage

Forget all of the negitive stuff here, 99.99% of the people here are wonderful and are more than willing to help out whenever you have questions, enjoy your new 10D, I still enjoy mine.

I never understood why people are proud of themselves when their
able to rip someone else off, even if it's a large company.
I went into Fry's electronics to buy some printer paper and ink and
decide to stroll by the camera department to see if they had the
10D, I didn't think they were gonna have it but the had just 1
left. It was brand new and the box was not even opened. They had
the worng pricing on it to, they had put $999.00 on the box , I
jumped at the chance, when the guy brough it up on his computer he
said that the sticker price was an error and the camera was
actually $1299.00. After some disagreement with him and when i
spoke to a manager, he OK'd the price difference. i walked out of
there with a big smile on my face.

My only problem, I still haven't sold my expensive guitar to cover
the cost of this camera and I think they so-called buyer of my
guitar is about to flake on me. I brought the camera home and I
haven't even opened the box to look inside because if worse comes
to worse and I can't sell my guitar, the camera has to go back to
Fry's, unopened, for my money back, if that day does come, it will
be a sad day.

never make a mistake in your life and the person that catches it is
nice enough not to take advantage of you.

The manager was involved and could have simply refused that price. The OP couldn't have done a thing about it. They decided they would honor the error. It's not like he snuck the camera out without paying for it.

There was an ad in the paper today (in NJ) for a large electronics retailer - they had 10D, body only, advertised at $977.00.

My guess is that MAP has fallen as Canon wants to deplete the inventory.

What does NT-None mean? As you can tell I'm new to these forums,
thanks for the warm invite whoever that person was with the
negative comments, let's hope noone ever pics you to be a moderator.

Iv'e seen the great prices on used 10d's at Fred Miranda site,
there's just something cool about opening the box to a brand new
camera, it's got that sticky clean feeling to it.

Whoever said to open it and try it for 15 days, Ithink your right,
I'm going to open the box and just read the manual, I don't have a
lens or CF cards yet so the picture taking will have to wait until
I get the funds for the guitar. I talked to the people buying it
and they are working out a couple of querks in Paypal and i shoould
have my money very soon!

I'm gonna have about 1000.00 bucks to buy a lens, CF card, and a
card reader, I'm very interestd in the Canon EF 28-135 lens and a
EF 50 1.8.

Hopefully I get paid today!!

When a cashier gives me back to much change I don't keep it either, I give it back.

If you read the post you will see that he said he complained until he got them to match the price. Not quite the same as them offering it.

I did read it. He wrote, "After some disagreement with him and when i spoke to a manager, he OK'd the price difference."

Doesn't sound like he twisted any arms. The manager was involved and could have simply refused the price on the box. What could the OP have done then? Nothing. The manager choose to sell it to him.

Do you own a home? If I yell at you enough can I have it for $100? If you don't want to sell for that then the simple answer would be "no" inspite of any "disagreeing" I might do.

Their was certainly a time I might have done what you did, complain until they honored the price. But I think if you would have talked to the manager without complaining, reminded him that they were discontinued and this was his last one, he probably would have still done it.

I didn't say you did anything criminal. I guess I come from a different camp, I would think it's the employees fault that tagged it wrong and not the companies. And just what if the manager decided to fire the employee over this? Probably not but possible. I just would have chosen a different route to try to get them to honor the price.

Sorry, I didn't think about my reply well. I wasn't meaning to attack you personally, just people in general. :) Just pointing out an observation.

Enjoy your new camera.

Could be I read more in to that than I should have. You see people all the time being rude and arguing with people in stores just trying to get something for nothing. Don't you get sick of it? I do.

I do. I also believe in the adage of what comes around goes around. I understand your point completely. I also have a pet peeve about people that curse in front of children, ex-wives that think they still own me, and kids that don't respect adults. You have a nice day Mike.

You are just preparing us for selling your guitar or your camera ?
I think people should stick to camera issues and such on this
forum, not the story of their life.
There is no stupid story here, just a little story to share. This kind of comments don't profite to anybody.

Any large purcahses I have ever made from frys was a refurbished or open box-made to look new...they are scammers there. But glad to see you scammed them

I argued many time to obtain more good price (it is the market law).
But anytime I obtained a price that the manager dont' want to give me...
This is not a rude attitude just 'merchandising'.

Finally, do you think really that if the store lost money, the manager would accept to sell the 10D at this price? Nobody force him to sell.

You have a good point here, maybe it is made to look like it's never been opened, hmmmmmmmm, now you got me thinking. I mentioned that I wasn't going to open the box but now I should because if there is something worng with the camera, i won't be able to take it back after the 15 day return policy, and for something of that cost, it would be foolish not to inspect the contents.

Thanks, off to open the box:)
