I'm 10K scared.

that surely look like the same syndrome to me :)

car accident happen do they? lets never go back in a car again and never cross the street again...that way we'll never die from a car accident..oh wait a minute..but we all die from something :)

should I stop flying as well?
You might as well stay home, as the risk of getting mow down by an
automobile exists every time you cross a street. Wait, there are
tornados and typhoons that can hit your house while you are home.
Did you check your stove to make sure it is not a fire hazard?
Better check it again, as it has been 10 minutes already since your
last inspection.

I am not trying to give you a hard time. However, if you are
paranoid all the time, you can't get anything done...

I had my shutter die around that number and i'm not worried in the
least bit. Even if it breaks the camera is under warranty and if
not it will only cost you $180 or so. If mine breaks again and i
really need a camera or a new one is out I'll simply dust off the
mastercard. Yeah, like my mastercard is dusty!
mine is dusty from the particles decomposing from it from too much useage!

i was ging to take my camera out today and shoot some amazing shots
of a sunset over the lake, but I didn't. I pulled the camera out
of the bag, turned it lovingly over and over, turned the switch on
and off a couple of times, even reviewed a couple of the pics
already on the CF card, and then regretfully put it back in the
bag, and returned it to the top cupboard. I admit it, I was
scared. Scared of the 10K shutter barrier. What if I get up to
9,999 and then have to choose between two vital shots on my last
exposure? One might be Osama being captured in my local mall,
while outside a stricken airliner sheds vital parts as it prepares
to dive into a crowded neighbourhood. Which would you choose?

"Reeellaaaxxxx," I hear a few of you say, "the 10K shutter barrier
doesn't exist." Well, how do you know? It might not exist for
you, but it sure exists for me. It's driving me crazy, I lie awake
at night after dreaming that I am using my 300D, only to be cheated
by the cold reality of having woken up. Please, can someone help
me! I really really want to use my 300D, and I know there must be
a way...

The 300D is a great camera. Great price, excellent pictures (tried one and took over 1000 pics), low noise, plenty of lens choices.

However olympus considers (and rates on their website) the E-1 shutter to be capable of 150,000+ pictures. If durability is the most important thing - go E-1 for the long life shutter, weather sealing, and ccd wave filter.

Im sure Canon will make an excellent replacement to the 10D soon - you can always wait for that.

Cheers!

"No offence but this post makes you (Mr JohnDow himself) look like an idiot. A shutter is a mechanical device and a mechanical device can fail at any time. You bought a $999 camera for chrissake. If this had happened in a 10D or better you would have the right to ponitificate here but the fact is you bought the cheapest SLR on the market and in the cheapest SLR package this sort of thing will happen."

Your post would be true except for one thing... my post was so obviously in jest that only idiots would have confused its tone with that of the other post, which was seriousness itself.

I rest my case...

If you're losing sleep over when your Derble will become a
dead lump, go get a film based SLR like an old Canon AV-1.
(my first camera back in 1980)

Posts like yours are getting tiring, and I thought you were better.
Not funny, nor helping anyone.

Simple, take a bag full of batteries with you to work and spend day after day snapping that shutter till it breaks. Then get a new one under warranty and start all over again. I'll bet it doesn't break till 56,348.

That might sound crazy, but I had a friend about 30 years ago who bought a new Kawasaki 900 motorcycle. It developed a noise in the motor and the service department couldn't locate it or fix it. He decided to break the motor and get the whole thing replaced. He drained all the oil out of it and rode it around for several hours and it never locked up or broke anything or did anything at all wrong. He put new oil in it and rode it for more than ten years without a single problem.

OK the movie was all right but not great. The photo jokes made it worthwile.

Of course the third possibility: Do not shoot just yet, wait for a more significant scene to spend your last photo on.

At least you can not forget the lens cap with a SLR :-)

I think you should try and make that shutter fail. I want you to start shooting like tomorrow was your last day, "every day". That's right, take so many flippin pictures that the 300D engraves the eye piece on your face! Go ahead and grab the bull by the horns because that bulls a sissy and a whimp. Life is short my friend. Dance like no one is watching...

you're joking, right? so you will transform your camera in a paperweight because you are afraid that it will become a paperweight?

I am at more than 40,000 pics with my 300d...and let me tell you that each little occasions that I have to use it..I do. life's too short.
