Went outside to lock my truck tonight, when I noticed these beautiful clouds sailing over the bright moon. The colors were incredible, so I grabbed my rebel and my tripod and took a couple of shots. I exposed one for the clouds, and one for the moon. I combined the two in PaintShop Pro, and increased the saturation for effect. My daughter liked it, so I printed it out for her. I just thought the clouds and the colors were pretty cool, and by boosting the saturation a bit, and combining the two exposures of the same scene, it gave it a unique look. Thanks!

Well done Mike,
You have inspired me, we have a very rare blue moon over here on
the east coast of Australia tonight. I fear i may not catch it due
to cloud but i would consider waiting a few hours in the cool air
to get a shot like yours.
Aussie
Thanks Aussie. Hope you caught some good shots!

Nice shot mike! The colors look exagerated...but not overly!
Thanks Spaz. My daughter saw the original shots, and like the colors. So I boosted them a bit to see what she thought, and she approved. So the picture is kid tested :)

I dont know if larger works....it seems like the moon has been cut
and pasted in now. (the moon is surrounded by a thin black line)
Actually this is a different version of the shot, where I tried a different processing approach. I see what your talking about. I will post the original shot in a bigger version, which is what I should of done in the first place. Oh well, live and learn :)

Beautiful. Could you please tell us the exposure data and the lens you used?

Thanks, pixel. I will hunt them up and post them in a little while.

Thanks for sharing. Good idea to combine two shots together to get the clouds and moon both properly exposed. A hard trick to perform correctly though -- I see a black halo around the moon in your larger image.

It look very artistic with the increased saturation, but I'd like to see what it looked like more subdued. A picture like this would even look good in B&W, although the effect would be different.

Now that is an improvement, Mike. Good picture, good crop. It seems like you do not need a smaller camera from now on :-)

Cheers!
