What do you need from Canon?!

As long as you haven't selected all 45 points you can make them light up all the time via CF.If you had selected all points, it would be extremely disturbing if they lighted up, because they would change VERY often.

Not much to ask is it.

I'm thinking what else do I need from Canon. I'm a happy owner of
Mark II and a few L lenses. Most likely I'll purchase new ETTLII
SpeedLite 580. That's it. BUT, do I need anything else? What about
you folks? What do you need from Canon to develop and market?

I ordered the eclipse kit earlier this year but have been reluctant to use it not knowing the long term effects it "might" have. You observed that there was "some sort of coating on the sensor". I have to wonder just what is the function of that coating and why would Canon feel it necessary to apply this coating. Or is it just a by-product of the sensor manufacturing process and they chose not to remove it as part of a cost reduction effort after determining that it would not effect image quality if left on ??? Either way, only Canon has the answer to this question and they don't seem to be volunteering any answers. I sure would like to know, especially if it serves no purpose other than to make dust removal more difficult and could be safely removed without any ill effects with the bonus of making the sensor easier to clean in the future as you have observed.

But ultimately, over the long haul, I would much prefer they develop the technology so sensor cleaning would be a thing of the past, something we can tell our grand kids we used to have to suffer through in the early days of DSLR's ;-)

More accurate auto white balance and camera to pc transfer rates that matches the fastest cardreaders, - it's a bit odd that at 1/3 the price the 20D is twice as fast as mkII.

... or more properly, the AA filter, if you take the camera to a service center. I've cleaned the sensors on half a dozen bodies ... to no detriment.

I mean, come on Canon, if they can put a man on the
moon..........how difficult can it be?
If Canon gets to spend 100 billion of taxpayers' dollars, I'm sure you'll get your dust-free sensor. Every time I use Velcro or cook with a Teflon coated pan, it reminds me how expensive for me to enjoy such simple things. Okay, I guess I could find some Russian friends and tell them in their faces that we “won” the moon race. Likewise, it is probably cheaper to have assistants to hand you a camera for every lens you've owned.

.... and I'll take that flash too!

Hmmmm, until they invent what I am not thinking about this will do nicely.

To some the 580EX is a very exiting addition. To me, it hardly raised an eyebrow, as it still uses the unreliable IR communication protocol. How about some wireless radio wave flashes that I can actually place anywhere? I don't need intelligent flashes. All I need is very dumb slaves while leaving all the intelligence on-camera. Okay, maybe I can get sucker in with buying a radio wave ST-E2-like device to be the master controller.

Maybe f4.0 if it would cost too much for the 2.8.

I think they need to update the 100-400

Mmmm, that's interesting. Do you know if they use 100% isopropyl alcohol like you did or some other solvent? I may be getting closer to giving my sensor a bath.
Thanks Ken.

It's simple.
Canon NP-E3 Ni-NH in stock in New York City at a fair price.

If Sigma can produce a 120-300 2.8 lens than why can't Canon? If Canon is going to give the 20D and 300D a 10-22 EFS lens then why can't they do the same for the 1D and 1DMKII users. If the 1D and 1D MKII are built with the sports photographer in mind then give us the lenses that really cover the ranges we need that we have been missing and have only been able to get with primes or using third party lenses.

We are just Beta Testers who pay the Camera Companies to test their new products!

... which is MUCH easier to get without water mixed in. (Rubbing alcohol is generally only 70-90% isopropyl, with water the remaining fraction. )

I've tried the 99% alcohol sold as the 'Reality' brand, and it actually cleaned without streaks, but as I've got a liter of the real thing and a bunch of sterile swabs (sorta like individually wrapped Q-tips ... like what they take DNA samples with) I use that. Yup, I use fuzzy cotton on the sensor! (And lenses.)
Eclipse fluid is pure methanol, BTW.

The secret is to use just enough ... so that it evaporates as you swipe across. No puddles or drops, ever!!

An upgrade program for sensors, LCD displays,
and internal circuit boards and sensors. If
Kodak can do it to upgrade their first SLR
to the newer SLR/n, why can't Canon allow
a swap to a new 1Ds sensor and circuits in the
original 1Ds body at a vastly reduced cost, say 20%
of a new 1DsII with matching functionality.

I seem to recall 1500$ or so on a 5k$ camera. But its all
wishful thinking anyway.

I'd like my CPS repairs actually done in the three days they hint at but don't actually promise. Alternatively, they could actually have some loan kit in stock.

Better still - I'd like my kit to not break in the first place. Over the past 2 or three years I have had:

10D backfocus and weak hotshoe problem - cured eventually
Dead D60 (OK, it did got very wet)
MK2 focus calibration problems (this actually was turned round in three days)
Dead 550EX

Dead IS on 100-400, twice in the last eight months. The first time "the courier misplaced it" for two weeks. The seond time it was returned in three working days but it took a major argument to get this to happen. Once returned, three of the tripod mount ring locator screws fell out the first day I used it. Fixation were kind enough to replace them for free.
