Perhaps 300D replacement at $500?

The last time I remember Canon talking about 'revolutionary' it was about price, not technology - they are a seriously market-orientated company, and realise that technology is only as good as it's rate of usage - I also recall that some time ago Canon announced that this was their price goal, which they reckoned would finally kill film at any than disposable level, and would obviously put a big dent into 828 class cameras, with their need to price in a lens as well.

CONCLUSIONS:
First impressions of the RD3000 are that it's the digital camera
photographers have been waiting for. It's a properly specified,
properly built camera, which just happens to record what the
photographer sees in the viewfinder on an electronic CF card rather
than on conventional silver based film. Having said this, taking
pictures is one thing, selling them to a client is another.
