    Which channel?

    You want MAXIMUM performance the LAST thing you want to do is share channels. Think outside the box: http://www.addonics.com/products/host_controller/default.asp http://link-depot.com/pciinterface_idx.html http://www.koutech.com/proddisp.asp?category=IDE...

    An affordable but fast Photoshop machine?

    Why do you think I provided links? 1. bgillies now has PROOF to provide to the builder showing potential problems with the suggested specs. 2. The builder now has a chance to respond or justify WHY he/she suggested those specs. 3. Those links also show other products made by the same...

    An affordable but fast Photoshop machine?

    Instead of throwing your money away, you need to find a builder that KNOWS what they're doing. 1. Ask that owner how he expects to make that board run a CPU that it doesn't support? http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5WD2-E%20Premium 2. Ask that owner...

    SCSI or SATA?

    One of the more FAQ's I still get- 1. Depends: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1004&message=19386839 2. How deep are your pockets? 3. How much bandwidth can you feed the controller? In the past, there were VERY few (like ONE) single processor MOBOs with enough bandwidth...

    RAW conversion & PS help

    Thanks John- I'm going to try using it more when I have time, because I must be missing something. I'm looking for: http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Software/ProSoftware/Workflow/StepByStep.aspx# "...Capture One PRO lets you output your images in multiple formats and sizes simultaneously...

    RAW conversion & PS help

    John- Yup, I'm trying it now, side by side against C1 Pro. I think it's a matter of preference. In C1, I'm used to being able to do exactly that- Use it as a browser, preview RAWs, correct individual files for lighting changes, etc. WHILE sending out corrected files to be converted/saved to...

    RAW conversion & PS help

    John- I understand (I think) that, but is it possible to be correcting INDIVIDUAL files WHILE others ar being converted/saved to .tiffs as in C1? IE: Not batch proessing, but correcting individual shots (let's say varying lighting on multiple scenes) while conversions/saves are being done?

    RAW conversion & PS help

    Thanks Denis- Was originally going to qualify my statements in the opening post to show the final RAW--> Converted 16bit .tiff file size, but didn't think it was needed. Question- In C1 you can blow through a folder of RAWs, correcting & converting. In ACR, once you hit Open or Save, you can...

    RAW conversion & PS help

    Hi Denis- Thanks- I understand (I think) I guess it's a matter of interpretation. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in ACR, unless you actually do the save after opening/converting, an actual converted RAW hasn't really been performed? Example: C1 - Open to a folder of RAWs & it paints thumbnails...

    RAW conversion & PS help

    FYI- After OPENING the RAW & clicking that little button called OPEN: Resulted in this: When saved resulted in this: Again, how you can POSSIBLY say ACR won't open a file (RAW, in this case) is flat out WRONG. CLEARLY opening or PREVIEWING a RAW in ACR is COMPLETELY different...

    RAW conversion & PS help

    WRONG- Clicking a RAW in CS2 OPENS it in a PREVIEW window: How you could POSSIBLY think that's a conversion is laughable, but thinking ACR can't OPEN a RAW file as proven in the screen shot is beyond laughable.

    SATA Hard Drives-->Myths vs. Facts

    Michael- Without spending another HUGE of chunk of time chasing it down, the high CPU utilization MIGHT be app specific: vs: Regarding the 15+ hours yesterday with Asus on thier P5W DH Deluxe- Here is part of the problem. While it certainly offers a lot of "fluff," that JMicron...

    SATA Hard Drives-->Myths vs. Facts

    Unda- While current drives certainly don't deliver STR of 3Gb/sec (Hell, neither does SCSI!) as is commonly thought, gotta admit SATA IS better than PATA. NCQ & hot plug are two BIG advantages IF properly used, especially for digital darkroom use. Again, it's still at a young stage & does...
