I am about to purchase the Minolta G600 to my girlfriend. How do this camera compare to Canon IXUS 4-5 mpix cams? Noise, sharpness?

Is there anyone who have got ISO 400 photos to show - I am interested in the noise level, other photos are interesting as well...

pls, let me know if u are satisfied with it or if you regrett the purchase. Thanks.

It is a rather efficient, capable camera. I satisfied it around 80%.
The 20% deducted for
no remote control, no manual aperture, no speed priority, no aperture priority, no hot shoe for flash, Fast start up but no great memory
buffer as D1H. The width of the len is 35 mm only but the competitor had 28mm.
The monitor is beautiful but small.
The thickness is relatively bulky than Sony T1, Casio Z4.

My dream pocket size camera is not yet manufactured now.
Please keep work hard and produced a camera in pocket size
with the Nikon D1 power.

Hi

thanks for your reply!

My main concern is noise using 400asa and indoor photos with/without flash. I have compared G500 with IXUS 500 and noticed that the Canon has lower noise at higher iso and I am worried about even higher noise with higher resolution.

Can you post a 400iso photo indoor and/or outdoor - it would be much appreciated.

Best regards
Johan, Sweden.

Hi

thanks. I have seen that "review" but I really want to compare noise levels at higher iso. I already know that it is a capable and good camera from G500.

Best regards
Johan
The page contains sample photos and a short review.
not much mention of it here...I'm sure there are a few users
lurking in the forums, but not much discussion about it. I'd like
to see samples too, but you'll probably have to wait.

Original Image taken at 480x640 in total darkness. Straight from the camera, rotated 90 degrees only. No other PP. Just point and shoot in auto mode. How many cameras can do that let alone have this degree of focus. BTW this is the best centered of 6 images taken. Kind of hard to compose on something you cannot see. Yes it's a bit under exposed, default settings. But I think I made my point. Plenty of EV to play with.

If the G600 is anything like the G500, she's going to be happy with it. Turn everything in custom settings to on and scroll through with the 4 way as needed. Best menu driven system I've ever used.

Best to ya, Richard

The true test is when you hand over a digital camera to someone who's never used it before and see what they can get out of it. You know what happens, they just aim and shoot. No half-press (how do you do that?) no adjustment of anything (aperture, shutter, iso, wb), flash on auto.

That's what will make your girlfriend happy, something that will just plain work. I have G500 and prefer it to canon for what I'm using it for, but I think the canon might come out on top in the Girlfriend test.

Hi

I took some samples today when my girlfriend was out.. the cam is a gift to her... a very nice performer and the noise seems to be pretty predictable and NeatImage manages to reduce noise when using 400 asa, although I do think that the outcome is usable despite some noise.

Handeling is a joy, easy yet capable of many settings. Very good flash and it manages well to use when doing macro photograpy.

Some softness in corners but overall sharp. Fast operation overall yet a slight delay when switching between photos.

Very recommended.

My son, Erik, 1 year.

Thanks so much for the images.

Hi again!

I have been asked to add some inddor photos without flash and with different iso speed.

I choose a subject with daylight from behind and just one other lightsource. The cam was set in auto everything. The cam selected aperture 2.8 and different shutter speed. Se exif in original for addtional info.

Cam on tripod, selfrelease.

Again, it performs VERY well and I am happy with my purchase.

Best regards
Johan, Sweden

Please ask if you want addtional samples.

Congratulations on your new G600. It sounds you are pleased with it.

BTW, you may want to read through the 24-Jan-2004 19:11 forum entry at http://www.pbase.com/jcockfield/konica_kd510z (scroll down through the forum below the photos until you see the older 24 January entry).

It contains General tips, camera settings, etc., for the Konica KD-510z and Minolta G500. I suspect that the menus are probably the same, and you can customize the controller key functions in the same way.
