A friend of mine is in singapore the next two days. He is willing to pick up a D70 Kit for me.

Thus someone know who has them currently in stock ?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi,

I will also be in Singapore in 3 weeks and I'll be picking up a D70 kit.

It would be great if any residents and/or D70 owners (Henry Goh?)
could offer some advice on where to pick up the camera at a good
price??

Does anyone know what price the kit is selling for in S'pore ?

This will be my first DSLR and I'm wondering what 'must by'
accessories I'll need other than a memory card ?

Cheers,
Lee

Hi Lee,

Most sells the kit for S$2100.--. Yes if Henry Goh could help it would be great.

I just asked both the'well-known' shops as well as small regular shops in Peninsula and Sim Lim just 4 hours ago. All of them are out of stock and they reckon it won't be replenished so soon. When they came last Thur or Friday, they were snapped up on the same day. One of my dealer friend told me each shop can only take in limited quantity and his allocation of 8 units were snapped up in just hours. Not sure if he had a pre-order list then.

Thanks for the heads up on pricing, a very nice price indeed !

Does anyone have any idea when Phil will complete the review
of the D70 by any chance? I've made my mind up but it would
be nice to know his expert opinion...

Try Alan Photo: S$2100 for kit. Suggest you buy Lexar WA CF card from them too. May also want to think about SB-800DX flash which I think is a must have with D70.

sometime before 13 or 14th March. There is an IT show in Singapore and Nikon has a big booth booked. Alan Photo will be manning that booth.

The IT Show will be at Suntec City from 11-14 Mar 2004. I'm sure Nikon will be pushing the D70 very aggressively there. Probably will hold most of the stock for that show.

Watch http://www.nikon.com.sg/ under the promotions section for possible details of the show promotions.

Actually it is in stock. I know because I just picked one up this evening for my wife. This is from MaxPhoto. Price is as usual at S$2100.00 for the kit. Don't know if they have any more left but I should think so. Give it a try, say Daniel Wee sent you while you're there too :) Good luck.

No, give him the time he needs to complete it.

The one at Centerpoint?

Perhaps there will be some available too at Lucky Plaza, but might be more expensive (as usual). The cheapest I have ever come across is S$1950 (but out of stock, it's not a special price), it comes up to 2047.50 with 5% GST. I should be able to get it w/o GST but I don't want the kit lens. Maybe will just wait for phil's review and touch it first at the PC Show in 2 week's time. :)

You may want to ask your friend to try his luck at Max Photo, 3rd storey, at Centerpoint Shopping Centre. The shopping centre is just nearby a MRT station (Somerset), it's pretty convenient and it's in the heart of Orchard Road where he/she can do all the shopping. Here's the map :

There seems to be a lot of D70 kits available at the moment,

You can try Sim Lim as a first stop, or Peninsula Centre, or anywhere along the Orchard Rd shopping area.

Best prices in Sim Lim, are S$2k. tax extra, which I'm told is refundable at the airport.

Try John3:16 Photo at Funan Centre phone number 6337 2877 (A few minute walk from City Hall MRT). Max Photo at Pagoda street have them in stock S$2100, I was there yesterday (the shop is located the North-East Line MRT, Chinatown Station, a few steps from the Pagoda Exit).

For those coming to Singapore, you may want to try Cathay Photo, they are one of the big shops (don't expect the B&H-like, not even 10% the size of B&H), good services and always quote you the reasonable price. NO EXTRA charge for credit card...

Avoid shops along Orchard road, you wouldn't enjoy the way they sale things. Some shops quote you very lower price, get you into the discussion and then told you there is no stocks and offer your other alternatives model/brands which they can make more profits....

All the recommended shops mentioned in the thread can be found on http://www.nikon.com.sg , select "where to buy", look atr "central area". Nikon Singapore web also has list prices published there.

Most of Nikon items are sale at about 80% of Nikon's lists price...

Have Fun..

Just got mine + kit lens few hours ago. I am in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Paid roughly US$ 1,300 for the whole thing.

I suppose Canon Singapore should in-sync wiyh Canon Indonesia concerning D70 availability.

I second Cathay Photo, which is Singapore's largest photo store. There are two outlets, one at Peninsular Plaza, the other at Marina Square. Check out the website at http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg/ .

I was there this afternoon and heard that new stocks for D70 are arriving this Friday. I'll suggest that you get an I-quotation before you come to Singapore. If the price is good (S$2100 appears to be the standard price), you may want to ask them to reserve a unit for you.

Another shop with a website is TK Foto Technic at shaw Towers.
http://www.tkfoto.com.sg/index.html

Again, get an E-quotation for the best rates. The level of service is quite good.

John 3:16 at Funan is not bad, but the small shop tends to get crowded after office hours and on Saturdays. It does not open on Sundays. The prices are in general slightly higher than Cathay Photo's, though for the D70, it may be the same. MS Color at Ang Mo Kio http://www.mscolor.com.sg/profile.htm offers pretty competitive rates but it's a little less convenient to get to.

I would give the shops in Orchard Road (especially Lucky Plaza) and Sim Lim Square a wide berth. Alan Photo is at Sim Lim Square, and Henry Goh recommends that place, as do some other local photographers and enthusiasts. Unfortunately, I've read that only one person at Alan Photo provides consistently good service and quotes a good price. This may be true, it may not be. I've never had good experience at that shop, but it could be the 'hey-come-rip-me-off, I'm-a-young-female-photographer face'. LOL. You might have better luck there!

At this point in time, so long as the price is $2,100 inclusive of sales tax, you can buy it. Forget about service from any of the dealers. They are not going to spend time with you nor are they able to tell you much more than the specs sheets Nikon provided them. For that matter, When I spoke with Nikon Singapore today, they did not even know you need NC 4.1 to open D70 NEFs!

Get the camera and come back here if you need help. We will figure out any problems together. Just one word of gentle caution, I find some people rather rude or imposing when asking for help. This is a community where people share and help each other. But we, or at least myself, have no time for those who are rude or arrogant. I have better things to do like shooting more photos.

Having said that, make sure you get all the stuff that Nikon list in their catalog. The kit comes in 2 boxes like this photo shows.
