I am looking for a better camera bag to travel with. Currently I have a Lowe Pro backpack, thats wonderful, but its too large for extensive travelling, and really carries more than I need.

The bag should accomodate:
D30 (with grip)
70-200 2.8
420EX
Sigma 20 1.8
1 other medium length lens

AND

G1
Apple iBook (12")
and various accessories

So far I like the Lowepro Stealth Reporter 650 AW Shoulder Bag, but was looking to see if anyone else had other suggestions.

Thanks!

I want a bag to take traveling that will hold the 10D with grip, a 550EX, 16-35L, 28-70L, and either a 70-200L or 100-400L with room for batteries and chargers. Any suggestions. I have a MicroTrekker 200 and a large Tamrac bag that holds a laptop. I want something smaller.

Hi, I am currently looking for such a bag also ... on the Lowenpro site there are quite some backpacks and when I was looking trough the internal seize of them, I was under the impression that the Micro Trekker 200 was to small to hold a 10D with grip ... I now see that you own the 200 Juli can you confirm that it is big enough for the 10D with Big-Ed and a lens attached. Thank you.

Froto,

See subject. It's just a tad snug, but it does fit. I don't own a Big Ed but I tried one on my 10D and the two together in the Micro Trekker 200 before I purchased the bag at the dealer.

Absolutely. I don't understand why Lowepro lists 5" as the depth when it will hold 6." http://www2.pbase.com/image/17684778 . Take a look at the preceding two photos for other views of this bag. If I remove the 50mm lens, I can fit either the 70-200L or 100-400L with the lens reversed on the camera body.

Yesterday I saw a guy with a backpack that had wheels. If you prefer, you can put the bag on the ground, extend the he handle and pull it along. He was using it for books, but it looked to be the right size for camera equipment. Since I am going to be toting my 100-400mm lens, etc., I think the bag looks like a good way to travel through airports. All my gear together gets heavy, and I would rather pull it along than tote it.

I asked the guy where he got the bag, and he said at Macy's. I'm going out there today to check it out.

I haven't done this yet, but I have a set of luggage wheels that I use with my laptop bag. It will also fit my large camera bag. Also Lowepro and Tamrac both make wheeled cases.

I have the Stealth Repporter 650 AW and I like it. If you like shoulder bags as opposed to backpacks you will not be disappointed.

I especially like the two levels of weather protection (shower and full) which I have used in anger and it works well.

If I could change anything it would be the strap which I think is a little on the narrow side if you are carrying a lot of stuff.

Macy's is having a very good sale on luggage, including rolling totes and backpacks. Unfortunately I couldn't find what I wanted. Their available bags were a little too large for what I had in mind. Others might want to check. Sale is on until Aug 3.

Went to the local camera store. They had rolling totes, but they were hard surfaced and pretty big. Again, more than I wanted.

I guess I will keep looking. I could shop online, but I need a bag by Friday, if possible.

Lowepro and Tamrac both make them. You could order from B & H or someplace like that, but you'd have to pay a lot to get it by Friday.

Try looking at the Billingham range of bags. Made beautifully and come in a whole lot of different styles . I have the Beta 9 which takes the larger longer canon lenses fitted and have added 2 avea pouches for additional lenses . I also have an 206 which takes 100-400, 70-200f4 420ex sigma fisheye 15mm 50mm 1.8 and 10d with bged with room on outer pockets for extra cards and filters etc, by adding 2 avea 5 pouches I can also take my 17-40 and 28-135 . The 550 or 445 might suit what you need??

Hope this Helps. Stephen

I purchased a Domke dataporter 20. You may also want to look at crumpler bags if you're looking for a messenger type bag. I was planning on going with a crumpler, but no local shops had in the size i needed. I'm pleased with the domke though. It holds my 10d body with 28-135 IS lens with hood attached, Sigma 15-30, 50 1.8, Nikon Coolpix 5000, 30 gig Super DigiBin and I still have room left for papers, batteries, etc. It also has a detachable notebook compartment, which I don't need. But if you're looking for a messenger bag I'd give this bag a shot or the Crumpler stuff, which I dont have 1st hand experience with, but I have read great things about them. Good luck.

My wife, bless her heart, found a medium sized, rolling backpack at Ross for Less for $18.95 and purchased it for me on the off chance it might work for my kit. It is Casual Gear brand. I never heard of it either.

I took the padding out of my Tamrac bag and fitted it into the backpack. Everything fits perfectly--my 10D, my 28-135mm IS, my 100-400 L IS, battery charger, extra battery, extra cards, manuals, lens cleaning kit, and three lenses, plus my 500D.

This means I can roll my kit through the airports this weekend.

At nineteen bucks, how can you lose?
