Anyone know why I can't use this in manual mode on the camera. It automatically switches the camera to commander mode when I switch the i40 into manual mode?

No idea. I use a nissin i40 for micro fourthirds in manual mode with my xt10 without any issues...

Never had that problem.

Set the dial to M on the nissin i40

Switch on the camera, switch on the flash.

Not sure what you mean with 'why I can't use this in manual mode on the camera' - but here's what's happening on my system with two i40 flashes.

First i40 on camera - setup manual/ x-t1 changes indeed to commander mode, this makes sense because you don't use curtains, etc. Flash compensation is still working.

Second one in Sf mode to trigger remotely and works like it is in manual mode.....

From what I think of it it designed to work this way.... manual mode = commander mode on X-T1 and so you can use other slave units to fill in flash.

If this is not the answer you are looking for, maybe read this threat.

Switch on the camera, switch on the flash.
Can you change the flash modes on the camera mine is greyed out as soon as I switch to manual
It just works - so I never looked at the back of the camera when I put the Nissin i40 to M.

That's not commander mode, it's manual flash mode. Notice it doesn't have the "C" under the flash gun as commander mode does.

It is working as expected. This is also what you see when you put another flash that it can't control, like a Nikon Speedlight.

Cheers,
Rich

Ok, it is true that I can't tell you it is working correctly, but the icon it is showing in manual mode is the correct icon. Notice it doesn't have a letter C under the flash gun in the icon. Switch it to TTL and look at the icon for commander mode. The icon you show is also what mine shows when in manual mode. I just checked it. I am getting different exposures by moving the dial on the flash though.

Is it possible that you have switched the mode of your flash by holding the power button for 5 seconds while in manual mode? What color is your indicator light when in M on the flash?

Ok I figured it out a while back I messed with that HHS hack and it must of messed it up I held the test button for 3 seconds till the light stoped flashing now it works. Thanks for all the help!

I don't think it hurts anything. My understanding is that it is just a function supported for other brands and we are supposedly waiting for Fuji to implement HSS for TTL in firmware in the camera.

Given that it is not a super powerful flash as is, I don't really miss HSS. As it is, I sometimes can't power 1/180th with it and have to boost ISO or drop shutter speed.

Glad you got it all worked out.

Merry Christmas
