Surprise: Zeiss to launch two amazing new FE autofocus lenses today!

That 85mm F1.8 could be a killer lens. Think it's one of the gaps in the current FE line up that need filled!

But don't forget the price of the blue label on it! It won't be a cheap lens...

Oh, snap! Is the lack of long telephoto lenses the only gripe we can have now with Sony ? :P

True, will be interesting to see how it compares to the SEL90M28G. If that would give me macro and a good portrait lens it might be more alluring than the blue badge.

Wow,

These lenses look good.

Pro grade, including weather sealing. Will be pricey though.

25mm and 85mm will be essential to complement the 55mm 1.8.

People still buying into full frame system and expect affordable lenses?

Just looked at it the 85mm F1.8 also has OSS! Something the FE55 F1.8 doesn't have? This would be a very good low light lens ...

Interesting or not?

USD1299 for the 25mm, and USD1199 for the 85mm. I can't wait for the 85mm...

They need to write an app to update the screen with the average used lens (or body) price so that certain people can enjoy their re-sale value paranoia in real-time.

On one hand I'm happy to see a bit of innovation regarding how lenses display information. A digital DOF scale could allow, for example, users to customise the scale to their own tolerance. Although perhaps displaying it on the camera's body would be a better idea (like the S2 007).

But on the other, an OLED screen of this kind is something that's been tried before, on the Leica S2, and I believe it didn't stick : I think the latest type 007 uses another kind of display technology. Wouldn't such OLED displays be susceptible to degradation over time, especially since, I believe, they're driven pretty hard to reach a luminance good enough for outdoor use ? Or just be a bit hard to see in direct sunlight ?

Very well!!! so I am going to cancel my order for the 28/2 and get the 25/2!

Very well played Zeiss IMO.

If there's 2 focal lengths I'd love to see in the system it's these 2, especially at the level of quality these undoubtedly will be.

There are very good to excellent ff lenses that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, eg canon 85mm f1.8, new aud$430 s/h aud$320.

If you can afford and willing to pay $1000 for a prime lens be my guest no one is stopping. I wouldn't.
Zeiss lenses always were, are, and will always be, expensive. No point in complaining about that, it's an historical fact.

Sure the Canon is cheaper, I used it in my Canon EOS film days, it is a good lens, but is also a very old design, and it shows: poor performance wide open, lots of CA, and so on.

I have no doubts that the new Zeiss 85 1.8 is more robust, and performs a lot better.

This seems to point to a wide angle 25mm Loxia, perhaps. Unless they go for 21mm, or even 18mm.

What I find interesting is that historically, Zeiss always goes for 25mm instead of 24mm, any one knows why?

I have no interest in AF for a wide angle, so I will wait for the Loxia. In the meantime, I am quite happy as well with my old Nikkor 24 2.8 AIS, nice "surrogate".
