People keep saying "Nice Leica" when I shoot with RX1R

I don't know what it is about my RX1R, maybe it's the Leica-style Fotodiox hood that I use on it, when I'm out shooting, from time to time people keep shouting at me, in one of the following ways:

"Nice Leica!"

"Is that a Leica?"

"I bet you can get some great shots with that Leica"

"Which Leica lens is that?"

Since I don't know how to respond, so usually I just shake my head denying, but I think there might be a better way to respond. Any ideas?

True fanboys will of course use the opportunity to reference to the former Sony slogan:

"It's a Sony!" :o)

"I bet you can get some great shots with that Leica"
"Actually, I get better shot with my Sony!"

"Sure, if I get a shoot of you!?"
"Which Leica lens is that?"
"Oh, it's the Zeiss Sonnar one!"

They probably just want to chat, so just relax and be nice, show some interest, like: “Oh, you’re into photography?”

Just debrand it and say "Yeh, they got me out testing this new one they plan to launch in 2015... got a Sony sensor and Zeiss lens".

That will get some forum chatter going.

:-)

How did you debrand it?

Is that a scotch tape or what?

Very nice. That is exactly what I will do with mine when it arrives! I do it with all my cameras in fact and just wish they all offered non-logo versions like Leica do.

Which soft shutter button is that?

Some black electrical tape and a touch of post-processing cloning.

I would love for it to look like that in real life. It is close, but not so smooth.

That is a Match Technical Bop soft release.

Beautifully done! I de-brand _everything_, but, like you, I have not been able to achieve the look you've illustrated. Here's to trying!

"It's the first prototype since Sony bought Leica - the factories will be moving to Korea but please keep that under your hat!"
:)

Electrical tape is great, I've found it to be a lot better gaffer tape, surprisingly.

Use modelling putty to fill in the lettering and then have a spray artist cover the body with matte enamel. Will require very skilled masking....!

I look forward to the release of the "RX1R P" and the opening of 'Sony a la carte'!

There are a lot of snobbies around.

Very strange.

Leica is a ultra-high-end, iconic product and I would think that anyone who is remotely familiar with the brand would not confuse the RX1 with a Leica.

I have carried my RX1 around for nine months and never had anyone confuse it with anything.

No one has ever asked me if it is a Leica. But I am amazed when I have have discussions with non-photographers about the camera the first question is "so how much does it zoom?" When I tell them it does not at all, then they are assured it is a toy and let me snap to my heart's desire.

My version of the Stealth RX-1

No one know what this camera is!

Japan Hobby Tool Co #4040 (Canon EOS1 Type) grip material

Match Technical Lady Bug — Extremely comfortable and easy to squeeze slow shots

Ricoh GR leather strap — soft leather with suede on the inside

I have tried both the UN Grip and the Fotodiox and find having a larger grip area that doesn't force you to use the small grip area to be the most relaxing for all day hand carrying.

No-one has ever asked me anything about the RX1R. I assume that they assume that it is a common P&S. Exactly what I wanted. Even in studio settings, the camera is unobstrusive to the point of being ignored. The silent shutter helps with that, too.

The most common question I get is "That's it?".

Yep.

...another thing that random strangers say to me often. Very annoying because i thought my camera is unique! :)
