Anyone else see the s50 on Walmart.com?? It is black body and is 5 mp and 3x optical zoom. I just happen to come across it today. Any info would be helpful.

I could be wrong, but I can't imagine Canon letting the S50 be their standard bearer for the pixel crown in the prosumer catagory. Actually, someone in the Canon DSLR Forum posted that he was told by a "Canon employee" that G4 will be released soon, but did not say anymore.

It's really attractive. But it's hard to tell from the Wal-Mart description what this camera may offer that the S45 does not. More megapixels, certainly. But of all the things I've heard folks complain about with the S45, "I wish it had more resolution" didn't seem to be a major issue.

Looks to me like the S-45 with a 5 MP CCD. Probably pretty noisy.

It's interesting that it appears on the Walmart website with nary a word on the digital sites. Obviously it's not released yet but I'll bet we'll see the announcements from Canon in a day or so. I bet they have a G-5, too.

No new shooting modes (at least not on the mode dial)..

Unfortunately, they show it only from the front, so we can't see if they changed the Mode/Set button.

I too would like to see a pic of the back of it...I wonder if they have re-designed the multicontroller, other than that, I don't see much difference with the S45 except pixels

If the new S50 is the benchmark for Canon's upgrades, the G4 will be 5mb, black and not address any of the camara's real weaknesses.

Of course, it will sell like hotcakes!

This kind of reminds me of the black G2. Stirred up lots of interest, they were hard to get, and didn't offer much more than the silver G2. At least there's one more MP to push that little lense even further.

Unless they've beefed up the flash or low light capabilities, I'm going to stick with the s45 I have on order.

Then people can spend their time here comparing shipping dates and frittering away months of shooting time to save $30.

Of all the digital sites, I can't believe > scooped this camera. There is absolutely nothing anywhere about an S50. Pretty funny, I think.

Maybe it's a hacked web site ;-)

Or maybe we're having "wish-fulfillment" hallucinations!

Maybe I'll spray-paint my S230 black and sell it on ebay for more than I paid.
