I just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone on the forum who helped me get there. Petteri, Zach's photos, Cycloperdia, Lisa O and everyone who posted pictures that proved that the limitations are not the camera.

Today I ordered an X Pro-1 and 35mm lens with a top end SanDisk card from Amazon. Then I ordered the +2 Diopter from Stephen Gandy.

My great frustration with Canon DSLRs and the lenses is not IQ, it's that the camera is always in the closet.

My goal is to have the Fuji with me., on the floor of my car, banged and bashed, but taking pictures.

Of course, now I'm frustrated for a few days waiting. But that's the norm.

Now, I'm sure the lens chatters and it's not top notch low light super fast AF system and that there will be other strangeness. I learned on manual film cameras and am sort of psyched to return. Wars and all.

The two main reasons I took poor shots with my Canon have always been - me and the fact that the camera was at home. here's to photography and the fun of being engaged with your subject versus a piece of electronics.

Thanks
Rob

PS - My goal, one camera, one lens, one shot, each day.

Congratulation Robert!

That 35mm is a gem, the perfect partner to XP1

Congrats. The X-Pro1 so far seems almost on par with my D700 in terms of image quality, so there's nothing to complain about there. I won't personally ditch my DSLR though, this just gives me an excuse to replace it with a D800 now ;)

The X-Pro1 will probably see a lot more use than my DSLR will though.

Thanks, if i don't use the Canon gear, I will sell it.
Unless Fuji comes out with a mount for me to stick my 300/f2.8L on it :-)

If your are only half as happy as I am with it, you have a winner there, Robert. ;)
Wish you to be as glad as I though. Congratulations!

First time today at about 6:45 am thundering down Jerome ave in Da Bronx I had a cam with me xpro1. Shot this one handed through windsheild it is cropped big time. Ps dont let them know on the Olympus board the truck was full of OMDs

Congrats. I am thinking the same thing, ready to jettison my D700 and 24-70. For me it is far more practical....I have a nuero problem which weakens my right hand and limits my motor skills. I just cannot manage the heft and weight of the D700 with big glass.

The X Pro1 is the direction I am going in. I go back to all manual, match needle days, and admit the nostalgia bug is part of the game for me. I will still have my D90 and some lenses for those "dSLR" days. Admittedly I am waiting for some more test reviews, in that I am using my D90 more these days with a 35mm lens only

I've had my Xpro-1 for 2 days and it is great.
It is a wonderful 'walking around' camera.

My Canon gear has always required me to get into 'I'm going out to take pictures' mode. The Xpro-1 experience is more casual and more fluid for me.

I still have my Canon lenses and camera but wonder how much use they will see.

I really like using the OVF and having to visualize what the image will look like.

A really fun camera to use. I don't think of it so much as nostalgia as the fluidity I experienced using smaller film cameras before the digital wave hit.

Finally, I think the criticism about the Xpro-1's AF and the aperture 'chatter' is overstated. Either that, or I'm just not sufficiently evolved to be particularly exercised about those things.

Fantastic, Rob!!!

Congratulations for taking the plunge! We're all sure you'll love the camera as we do! I bet with all the forum posts and research, you already know the camera inside out!

Looking forward to seeing some of the great pictures you'll be shooting with your new toy!

Awesome Robert. Glad you took the plunge. I am with you. I plan to bring this thing with me everywhere. I am also guilty of not wanting to carry around my DSLR. This thing is nice to carry. Not too big not too small. I enjoy it...

Thanks, I hope so.

I know exactly what you mean.

My decision was driven by seeing the output and enthusiasm from pros and forum members alike.

It's funny, I had committed to buy the 5d3 for ages and then the Guji came out and my excitement was off the charts. I don't think it s a camera for everyone. But that's OK, as long as its good for me.

Good luck
Rob

Adrian,

If I can get to 25% of your images I'll be delighted

Thanks so much

It's weird. I am shotting a dog adoption day tomorrow and know the Fuji will be better than my Canon.

Apart from sports and dogs on the run, I can't think of anything where the 5d2 will be used for me. Then those big L's really do come into their own.

My best friend flew over today from the UK and told me that he had inherited a bunch of old Leica gear.

I told him about the Fuji and his eyes lit up.

I really do want to get into the habit, as that is what it is, of having a camer any my side at all times.

One shot each day.

I used to do this and it made me feel alive.
