Now that the rumored 5D III is about to be announced, those who will pass on this version, what do you hope for in the 5D Mark 4?

Canon killed off/ is about to kill off the 1D IV to the 1D X Canon due to NIkon's FF action cameras. I feel Canon will do the same thing with the 5D III, due to Nikon's elephant in the room (D800).

The 5D III will have a short life IMO I hope the 5D IV will surpass the D800.

Time will tell.

I don't think so. D800 and 5DIII are two very different cameras. One will be the king of detail and the other one the king of low light. I see them as complementary, for those who can afford to maintain 2 systems. 2 different needs.

Did you seriously just start a 5D Mark IV thread on the very day the 5D Mark III is introduced? This is a whole new level of insanity. I'm hoping I'm just too dense to have detected sarcasm on your part.

Well, neither of us knows the most recent sales figures. There are opinions, that DSLR will be a diminishing market segment in the future due to the success of EVIL camera. So, a slight model shake-out would be a logical result.

I agree insofar, that the 5D3 cannot compete with the D800 on paper. Time will tell. Personally, I'd be somewhat delighted to see Canon suffer from its annoying "small upgrade for a premium" policy.

I guess there comes another hi-res FF camera in the near future, maybe a 3DX.

My wishlist for the 5D4 (without knowing the exact 5D3 specs):

-built quality and handling similar to 7D, weather sealed
-24 MP
-opportunity to use either EF / EFs lenses
-multi-norm-sensor layout like Nikon (1x, crop 1.3x, crop 1.6x)
-even better AF than 5D3
-priced under 3000
-attractive effects on women...

Muahahahahaha.

Yes I'm very serious. Against the D800, the body spec of the 5D III is not even built to a pro level. I want a Canon 5D IV built to rival if not surpass the D800. If it take a year or so to this camera I'll wait.

IMO the 5D III in just an interim camera just like the 1D IV.

Perhaps I missed something....how is the 1D IV an "interim camera??? By what standards are you calling it such?

The 1D IV should have been the D3s's FF rival. IMO The 1D X is what the 1D IV should have been but within the price range of the D3s.

No, IQ trumps all. Can you prove that the D800 will better the 5D III in IQ? If you can, please do so.

We'll probably have to wait 4-5 months before we get some sample photos from the 5D III just like the 1D X sample photos.

Well, so maybe we don't know which camera produces better image quality?

Hmmm......

Why's that? Do you think the 5D III is the camera that all 5D II users were hoping for after the 3 year wait?

I think I'll pass on this 5D version YMMV

Why do so many forget the purpose of this Forum is to discuss the Canon Professional Camera line up? Canon Fanboys and "I wish I could afford one and become a Pro and make all that money" types, need to understand that for those of us who use these tools, and yes, a particular camera is just a tool used to make a living, well thought out information from our peers, is why come here.

It does appear that for working Professional, Studio/Wedding, Fine Art, and Landscape shooters, the newest 5D falls far short of what we had hoped for, at least on paper. I remember when Canon began to steal Nikon's thunder and Market share. I now see that reversed in terms of the D800's specifications and price.

Our Customers are not coming to us for Video. We know we can't shoot stills and video at the same time and do a Professional job with each. Portraits, Sport Team Packages, Weddings, Senior's, all call for still images. This is where we make our slim livings.

It does appear Canon sees their Market as now consisting of Consumer Level DSLR's and Video Production types. They must feel that there is little profit for them now in the World of Commercial and Studio Photography. It boils down to a Business decision on their part, and clearly the 5D3 shows we are not part of their equation.

Believe it or not there is genuine dissatisfaction with the offerings of the 5D III.

What do you think Canon may due to satisfy the DEMAND for a high MP camera?

Whats next a 1D Xs 36mp pro studio camera at $8000? With the D800 I don't think so!

Nice rational, logical, well grounded post. I agree.

I would like to know the true balance on the MP issue. Just from a rough guess from the posts I've read on here any other furums, at least 50% of folks wanted more MP. Only sales figures over the next couple years will give a true indication. But it sure sounds like Canon will miss the boat if they have ignored MP count.
