So sick of the few who continuously tell us what they can see in the SD1 images is so superior to what we can see.

Need to get my hands on an SD1 to test it. Refuse to pay AU$9k for a camera which can give me the same green/purple shadow noise that my $800 SD15 does so am asking where I can beg, borrow, rent or otherwise purloinl one? The Australian distributors don't want to know so they are totally out of the question. (I seriusly don't think they've even heard of the SD1)

I am serious about this and am willing to pay a reasonable rental rate and freight both ways.

I have reasonable lenses to use, e.g. 50mm f2.8, 18-50mm f2.8, 70mm Macro, 50-150mm, 400mm HSM. Am prepared to buy any other lens suggested.

Here's your chance to convert me. Make me a believer.

The epiphany of St. Jael is in your hands.

Over to the knowledgeable ones.

You could rob a bank. Then while you are in the cooler you'll have all the time to get used to the SD1 & tell us about it when you are out in a few months. Plus you get free board, lodgings & meals ;-)

Just ask Sigma which companies in your Country have Sigma SD1 for rent.
Contact them and rent one.

This review is from: Nikon F6 Professional SLR 35mm Film Camera Body (Electronics)

Camera will not work with CompactFlash or other digital media cards. You must buy a cartridge of tape, which allows for just 24 shots. No LCD screen for image playback. Extremely frustrated and returned item.

What a joke Stan.

The camera companies in Australia don't even know Sigma make cameras or SA lenses !

When I was looking for a SD15, I was fobbed around & was asked to pay a 10% no-refundable deposit to have a look in the box & they couldn't get any lens for it either :-)

I know exactly what you're talking about Colin. CR Kennedy have to be the most useless persons in the world when it comes to anything to do with Sigma.

I sent a number of items to them for repair or replacement and they allways come back as "working within specification." Send the same thing to Sigma Japan and they send back a new one.

has a company which is loaning all Sigma lenses and cameras for them.
But well, we all know the strange marketing concepty of Sigma.

IMHO Sigma can get only new customers when they have a chance to to try a camera especially at such a price.

You can only hope, Jaelkay.

Now that's where an ass could do better: hope and bray!

One thing comes to mind: wait until the SD3 comes out (got 30 years?): then the SD1 will be a hand-me-down/museum piece.

What else is there?

I want a replacement hot mirror for a DP1 so I can use it for InfraRed photography.
No answer from Australian agent or Sigma Japan, I asked months ago ! ? !

Your better off buying an SD10, SD14 or SD15 for IR use...They have easily removable IR filters and you get a choice of lenses to use. ;)

...Try and win the lottery!

Well, Jael: How about talking to stores that sell the SD1 in the Great Southern Land and have them in stock ( 86 pieces!!! )? Like this one: http://www.sale-point-online.com/product_info.php?currency=AUD&language=en&info=p13670_sigma-sd1-digital-camera-body.html Maybe call them up and ask for a trial? They're not exactly flying off the shelves... so they might just be interested.

Worth a try, I plumb reckon.

Thanks Alf
I have SD15 & a self-converted (hot mirror removed) DP2 ;-)
I like the wider angle of the DP1 for IR.
I love my naked Foveon.

I suspect Sigma, as a wholly privately owned business, hasn't the required resources to set up their very own representative entity in Australia, soooooooo, we're stuck a lame duck called CR Kennedy.

I've said all this in the past and even though I get told Sigma read this forum, I've never heard of any response from them to this situation.

Maybe they don't care?

Hi Jim

I actually contacted Sigma Japan a couple of years ago and offered to become their Australian distributor. Sent them all manner of information on my abilities, financial situation, proposed operation plan, premises sketches - the lot. Did not get anything apart from a "thank you." Maybe it's time to try again.

You're right in suggesting CR Kennedy don't care. I don't even bother with them any more and anythig requireing repair I send direct to Japan.

Aside - I've had better advice about Sigma gear from Vanbar than from CR Kennedy.
