To me, the moderator should have the power to delete posts in the following cases:

1. Posts that are not gear related.
2. Posts that are speculations and not based on facts.
3. Posts that are based on facts but not understandable by many.

4. Posts that are gear-related but containing good images (discriminatory for those not capable of taking good images).

5. Posts that are gear-related but containing bad pics (discriminatory for those capable of taking good images).
6. Posts that links to other sites (DPreview need to have a captive audience).

7. Posts that contain hi-end gears (discriminatory for those who can't afford ones).

8. Posts that are gear-related but for gears not yet in the market (discriminatory for those who can't beta test).
9. Posts that contain so-so gears (discriminatory for those having hi-end gears)
10. ......

Sh!t, if I go on, nothing can be posted anymore :). It is a tough job and I am withdrawing any thoughts of my candidacy. It is Friday here in sunny California and have a nice one to all.

The worry of being banned for bad behavior will cause proper behavior.
Nothing will have to be done. That's the job of a moderator.

Define bad behaviour.

Although the O/P was being facetious the fact just about anything could be considered bad behaviour by some was the point they made.

Good moderators actually allow heated debates, strong differences of opinion and "shock horror" negative criticism of the very thing the forum exists to discuss.

For me bad behaviour boils down to bullying, liable and obvious trolling. That is it. Nothing else.

the posters who don't follow the posting rules that Dpreview has like-

"Off Topic - Please keep all non-photography-related messages to the Off Topic forum. Off Topic messages (considered those not directly related to digital photography) may be moved to the Off Topic forum or deleted if posted in one of the main forums. Repeated posting of Off Topic messages in the wrong forums can lead to a ban."

Here's a rule that is oftentimes violated-

"Posting many pictures - Do not post more than 10 pictures in one message, instead post a link to a gallery. Posting several messages with just one image in each in a short period will be treated as SPAM - it will be deleted. Please do not litter the hardware related forums with galleries - post them in the Samples and Galleries or photo technique forums instead."

or this frequent violation of Dpreviews posting rules-

"New posters - Before you ask a question please check to see if someone else has asked it before, ask our search engine first."

I mean how many times have we had to answer a newbie's question whether the Minolta lenses will fit a Sony A-mount body. Or, someone asks "what camera bag they should buy?" That belongs in the Accessories Talk forum, not on this forum, even if they own a Sony DSLR/DSLT.

The frequent "Guess the place" threads on this forum. Technically speaking, according to the Posting Rules that Dpreview has, it should not be on the Sony DSLR Talk forum.

Well, basically what they do now: Stay out of the way and let the games begin. ;-)

If you're implying that I'm trolling, by me posting that according to the rules of Dpreview, that type of thread is a violation of the rules, then you are one of those that wishes to censor a discussion.

You should back-up your post, or you will be accused of trying to 'bully' me, just because you disagree with my point of view.

I agree. While someone may think that a certain post is offensive, someone else may think it is a valid post and topic of discussion.

Look at my earlier post on this thread, that said that technically speaking threads on this forum like "Guess the place", is a violation of the posting rules. Someone posted a reply that implies that I am trolling, because they must like that type of threads.

The simplest and best rule should be that if you don't like a thread, ignore it, and if you don't like a certain poster, ignore them.

If you're implying that I'm trolling, by me posting that according to the rules of Dpreview, that type of thread is a violation of the rules, then you are one of those that wishes to censor a discussion.
I never implied you are a troll. I only expressed what I think a moderator should get involved with. Are you feeling guilty?

So, you WERE trying to bully me.

There's a forum (different, non-photo equipment) where the moderator can't tolerate anybody saying anything good about a certain good brand X thing simply because he owns an also good brand Y thing. That forum is open for all A to Z brands of things. He is so crazy he will bash you and your X thing for no other reason just to show he is a moderator and to get his post count up!! We must not hire a bad copy moderator!! 1/2 :)

in most cases, nothing is done. It is hard to find somebody that won't have any opinion at all for fairness and maybe a non emotional robot is usable but it could still be programmed to be biased.
