Lens wish list/prediction for the next year

With less then one month away from 2009, I think it's good time to make wish list for what Nikkors should be announced next year.

Please note what you'd like to complete your set, and what you think it will come out regardless of your needs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but typically Nikon releases 6 or more new lenses per year, so that'll be the number we'll work with. Ration in reality should probably be 3 dx/ 3 fx lenses, but let's ignore that in out wish list

a) My needs (currently have d700 and 14-24 + 24-70, sold everything else)

1) 70-200 f/2,8 VR-> as an enthusiast i simply want flawless one for 1800$ €

2) 135 f/1.8 or a bit slower -> because I'm jealous of sony cz 135 and want one for portraits

3) 300 f/4 AF-S VR -> would be perfect to complete my kit in regards of size/weight

b) What could be released:

4) 35 f/1,8 or a bit slower FX -> normal range for DX users, also usefully for full frame users

5) 80 (100)-400 f/4.5-5.6 VR-> not interesting to me, but I know many would appreciate it
6) 24(28) - 105(135) f/4 VR -> walk around f/4 zoom for full frame users

My whish list:

1) 14-24mm f/4 - around €500
2) 24-105mm f/4 VR - around €600
3) 70-200 f/4 VR - around €600

not a lens but:
SB-700 - same power than SB-900 but smaller - around €250

I'll keep wishing probably.

Any fixed non PC non Micro lenses in the 18-105 mm range, large front element and fast. Nano coating would be nice!

I think Nikon has to boost the FX with a good 28-xxx lens VR like the 18-200 and the 16-85 are for fx format. An overhaul of the 24-120 and a new 28-300 3.5-5.6, for example. Also a series of constant f/4 lenses like the 70-200 f/4 would be appreciated.

The 80-400 needs a redesign, Sigma is a strong competitor with their new superteles.

I still think that a high quality series of 35-50-85 mm f/1,2 primes with all the bells and whistles (nano, aspherical) is necessary for the D3x and to be on par with the "other competitor".

VR to be added to as much lenses as possible. I know is kinda science fiction, but an 85 1,4 VR mated to a D700 would be a real night owl!

But especially, please, Nikon, please, really, please, enough, stop, quit, fertig, end with new 18-xxx 3.5-5.6 VR G AFS lenses.

The lack of VR is what has made me drop my priority on this lens..

as much as I love my 14-24 (far best zoom I've used), I'd really like 16 or 17 - 35 (40) that takes filters. It can be even slow, I wouldn't care. Just give me great performance at f/9 - f/16.

Of course I could always buy discontinued 17-35 if revisited one does not happen.

I'm wishing for a lens unlike any that Nikon has ever made:

65mm f/1.4 AF-S VR

Here's my rationale. Their current single-focal-length line has a big gap in it. 20, 24, 28, 35, 50 are all closely spaced. Then there's a big jump to 85, then 105, 135, 180.

The proposed 65mm lens fills that gap. With VR, it would also be a superb lens for photographing parties and similar events: Long enough that it doesn't attract the subjects' attention too much; short enough that you can back off and capture groups.

I think that if Nikon came out with one of these for less than $1,000, I'd have to buy it.

I'll take one of those 35-135 F2.8 VR DX's for $1400, but it is much more likely to be 50-135 2.8 VR DX (which I'd also take).

I like your idea, especially with the DX crop available on the D3/x/700. A 65mm FX lens would still be good for small group shots, and in a DX crop would be a great portrait lens. Add VRII with F1.4 and you've got a very flexible low light champ. This plus a wide zoom on a second body could be all you'd need even for a wedding.

well a refresh for the 17-35/2.8d would really please me as a pj, but i'll be disappointed if they can't go faster than f/2 with a new 28. i guess that will at least keep it small.

1) 135 F/1.8
2) 85 F/1.2
3) 50 F/1.2

a zoom that gets to 500mm with Vr on Fx without TCs
a zoom that gets in the 28/35 to 105/135 range with Vr on Fx

a replacement for the 17-35 Fx(16-40 would be great,ha) Might as well wish for Vr even though not a need.
