What do you think?

Before the review, it has been anticipated as a direct competitor
to the DA.

But what about after the review? :-)

Let's hear your thoughts!

As I have said in my other post here in STF ...

"And this is why I love Phil's reviews ... always telling it like it is ... Looks like Fuji did a kick-a$$ rate media hype and couldnt deliver."

I must say the recent DLSS threads have my eyes trained to be more sensitive ... What do you see wrong with the WA white wall shot from http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujis602z/page12.asp? Hint - I am NOT talking about the vignetting.

I wont buy this camera for $200, nevermind $800 with all these image quality problems.

Hey, I missed that defect. Someone going to warn the Fuji forum of that ordeal?

looks like you guys are comparing it against a 5 MP camera before writing your verdict. It's a 3 MP camera and performs upto 4 MP cameras, not a bad performance after all. It's a rather good 3 MP camera and has many useful features. It's supposed to compete against the 4 MP cameras and is placed in that price range only, the deciding factor would be the forthcoming 4 MP cameras none of which are still anounced.

As far as I've seen in the review the low light performance is poor other things are ok.

The biggest advantage of the Fuji is no DLS.

Otherwise, it's for people who want a big zoom lens but don't care so much about pixel count.

I would rather buy an S85 or a G2 if I couldn't afford an F707.

Although the big zoom on the F707 is useful and fun for certain kinds of photography.

Not impressed. I'm still waiting for someone to introduce a lower cost knock your socks off digital cam -- it seems to me the perfect strategy for a company would be to not use one lens, but provide 3 world class sharp lenses for total of ~ $1000 and then a top body supporting this for ~$1000. $2K buys what you need.

20mm f2.8
50mm f1.8 or f1.4
70 - 200mm f2.8
Extender
Hot shoe

Sigma's rating on their 70 - 200 f2.8 is now a top performer. Two years maybe a reality -- get foveon to work and increase MPX -- maybe sigma could take over. I don't understand why we don't see Sony going after it all -- work with CZ and get the ball rolling over the competition -- or else .... goodbye.

Kind regards,
MAC

Actually, it didn't far well against last year's 4MP Canon G2 (now at the same price).

But I'm going to dissent a bit and say I'm still interested in the 602 pending personal examination.

What I LIKE about it is its autofocus. It's a major drag they didn't give it an AF illuminator, but the Sonys are just too slow to focus for my taste. Right now, it's the AF champ in its price range by a mile.

I also like the hotshoe, and the fact that it takes large storage media (I know I just heard everyone groan on this point!).

I'm not sold by any means on this "last year's image quality" camera, but I am interested still. I want a racehorse camera that can keep up with action without all the tiresome workarounds I have to do.

Well, that's my reasons for looking. So far, just looking and hanging on to my Sony for now.

Jimmy must have forgotten to post the reply he got from Phil Askey when he paid the a visit to FTF! So here it is ...all in the interests of a free exchange of information!!

Sigh... too many people jumping to too many conclusions about NOTHING.
What I would like to bring to attention is I have noticed the Wide
Angle white wall image on page 12,
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujis602z/page12.asp , shows two
subtle dark hoz. bands across the image other then vignetting. Both
band takes up about 1/5 the image height. The top band is about
1/6th way down from the top and the lower band is right at the
bottom edge.
A. Not vignetting, just flash drop-off... You guys (STF) have got vignetting on the brain, really.

B. It's really too faint to be worried about but the bands you're referring to are simply the shadow of the flash bulb itself.

It has some great features (large, unlimited mpeg, burst etc), but for me, image quality is the first thing to look for in a camera and this Fuji doesn't rivl the DA.

I suspect Sony probably has either a proper SLR or at least a high end consumer cam with interchangeable lens in the works. Hopefully they are just taking their time so that they get it right the first time. LOL, we can hope can't we?

I hate to tell you this, but suspecting is a lot different than hoping. :)

The 707 lived up to my expectations, it has some flaws but every single camera, digital or film ever produced has and probably will in the future. The DA has been and remains the number one for image quality in my opinion.

My camera has both BFS and DLS, but I didn't even notice the DLS until I went looking for it and nobody has ever picked it up in one of my images. People here worry far too much about such inconsequential things....
I agree with Jimmy, this Camera just didint live up to the
Expectations.
