SPP 2.1

Hoo Rah!@#

Can't wait to download SPP V2.1 Yesternight after reading a few complaints about the SD9's lack of low light capabilities, I took my cam to a local pub, ordered a virgin Shirley Temple and began shooting at the tipsy crowd. I used a flash f5.6 1/30 of a second, and i was EXTREMELY pleased with the results :) Regretably I can't post them b/c the 'models' in question don't wish to go online:) But I can only imagine how much more fun I will have once I install SPP2.1 when I arrive home.

Secondly, for all those who are compassionate and caring in my regards. Speak now or forever hold your peace. Instead of new lens/ new SD10, I will be acquiring at Powerbook G4 with SupaDrive to extend my on the road 'capabilities' But my excuse is .. I will use this Laptop for 'school' University of Phoenix Online.... :® What a way of justifying equipment :)

Figured it out! I knew I had use for my portable CD burner before I auction it off on Ebay (by the way, the auction's going right now for my RoadStor). My computer has a USB port here, and I can connect the Roadstor, pop in one of my CF cards and transfer the setup file onto that, then download it at home. I'll try burning a CD, although I think USB speed might make it too slow to work, but its worth trying. :)

I don't want to go off the deep end here, ... but I use a lot of
M42 lenses. I've had problems with halos, bluming, and very
noticeable CA with some. If I put those images through SPP 2.1,
..... they look altogether different. I can't believe my eyes. Or,
.... are these old eyes and brain playing tricks on me? It's still
there to some degree, .... but not nearly as noticeable as it was
before.

Anyone else shooting with M42's noticed this?
I think yes, the CA halos created by Flekotgon 20mm (my biggest troublemaker CA wise) look paler - sorry I do not have 2.0 jpeg nor 2.0 SPP to compare for sure. The quality of this one is degraded by straightening in GIMP - looks better before.

Cheers,
W.

Just imagine if you
had a D60 (perish the thought) and could not get images far better
than when you bought it.
What makes you think you can't? Canon released EOS File Viewer 1.0 a few months ago which is a noticable improvement over the old FVU (particularly in speed and usability.) 1D series owners can get DPP free. Some of these improvements should trickle down to any application that uses the SDK. And for a modest fee, Capture 1 keeps improving as well and you can tweak it further via 3rd party profiles for automated application of different looks.

Yes, Foveon support has been better than Canon's. (4 versions of SPP vs. 2 versions of Canon's SW.) However, Canon & Nikon have pretty robust 3rd party support (but not for free). But nether D60 or D30 owners have been left behind.

Michael,

Yipes! Mine took 14 minutes! Of course it fuzzed up on the first attempt which was 38 minutes. Then it took me...to figure out how to read the English instructions...and comprehend them. Damn! I wish they'd hire me to write their manuals. This stuff is tough to take.

Well, the bad news is as of Feb of this year, their proprietary software didn't support Macs. See http://www.uopxonlinetraining.com/howitworks_2_11_2004.asp

VirtualPC is a memory hog, and I had terrible problems with it when I first switched. Now that MS owns it (I think) it may have improved, but until I get a dual G5 with at least 1gig RAM, I'm not going to even bother trying.

The good news is you'll be very happy with the Mac, and you will find few cross-platform problems, esp. with file sharing. Also, there is a great deal of knowlegde wealth from gentlemen like Wiki and Thomas if you get in a pinch.

I'm debating myself what to buy (new Mac v. new SDx) when Sigma produces it's new replacement.
