Nature in our Own Back Yard
Challenge series hosted by bobcamm. Challenges start on Thursdays.
As its name implies, this series chronicles all of those wonderful photo opportunities close to home. The only restriction to this series is that images must be captured in the Great Outdoors...within 100 miles from your home base.

7. Nymph Loads
Winners announced: 12th June, 2014 GMT
Winner: Neuroptera family
Baby bugs can be, scary, intriguing, cute, or just plain bizarre! Late spring and early summer is a magic time of year...when multitudes of insectile nymphs and larvae rule the reeds, bushes and thickets. The goal of this challenge is to profile some of the more interesting larval insect forms you've found in your neck of the woods.
Winners announced: 8th May, 2014 GMT
Winner: Unfriendly Encounter
The theme of this challenge is simple. Show us some of your best examples of two different animal species captured within a single frame. They can be predator/prey interactions, two dissimilar birds, two different species of bug...etc. Any wild creatures are fair game, as long as two different species are represented.
Winners announced: 10th April, 2014 GMT
Winner: Wild Crocus
Spring is a magical time of rebirth. Vibrant fanciful plants and flowers force their way through a once frozen soil to transform the forest floor into a canopy of color. Show us what's been blooming in your neck of the woods.
Winners announced: 27th March, 2014 GMT
Winner: Along Came a Jumping Spider
"...Along came a spider, and sat down beside her." We all remember those infamous words from our archived memories of nursery rhyme. Many of us have developed a fear of spiders ever since! Now is the time to abandon your fears and show us what fascinating (or frightening) arachnid species have graced your presence.
Winners announced: 20th March, 2014 GMT
Winner: Alligator with Blue Crab
Snakes, lizards, alligators, turtles...this is your time to shine! Reptiles play key roles in Nature's ecology, and they are a lot of fun to pursue and photograph. Show us what you've found sunning, slinking, or slithering around in your neck of the woods.
Winners announced: 6th March, 2014 GMT
Winner: Tolga Monastery, Yaroslavl, Russia
This is your chance to become your own travel agent! What is it about the region in which you live that makes it so special? We all have those favorite places close to home that we return to time, and time again. Show me one of your favorite outdoor "playgrounds."
Winners announced: 27th February, 2014 GMT
Winner: Train à Petit Vitesse
Despite its name, this challenge does not involve cats. Those fanciful felines will surely be represented in all of their glory in other venues. I want to see your best caterpillar photos...those lovable larvae we all enjoy photographing each summer and fall.
