My sleeping dog Harri gives me also the great opportunity to study his 'details', because he really holds still. While he is resting, I could have a close look on the fascinating structure of his nose. Open the picture 100% to see what I mean. Even the nose is nearly always wet, it's pattern looks like dried earth. Thanks for looking...

Notes: The Nikkor 50mm 1.8 on DX is also a perfect lens for animal portraits. I used a SB-800 flash bouncing from a white table plate under which the dog was lying. An aperture of 2.8 isolates the nose in the scene. Afterwards cropped to a classical 1/3 composition.
