A real, live spider, but harmless. Called Golden Silk Orb-Weavers, they have interesting clown-like faces. They're not territorial, with dozens of them spinning individual webs in very close proximity to each other. Very neighborly critters. The females of the species grow to about six-inches across, which is about the size of the one in the photo. The males are much smaller, comparatively plain-looking and less than an inch wide.
