This is a male Red Grouse which as you can see is quite well camouflaged the females are even more so. They live on the moor lands of Scotland and this one lives on Loch an Dorb Moor. They are medium sized birds which are hunted in Scotland from August 12th known as the “Glorious Twelfth” - December 10th, shooter pay a lot of money to take part on a Grouse drive. The Grouse are very elusive and you have to be very still or the flying off low across the moor making a very loud deep sort of trill sound, often ending with a sound resembling “go-back-go-back-go-back”.
