The Space Shuttle Enterprise, OV-101, takes off from Lambert International Airport in St. Louis, MO, on the top of one of the shuttle carrier aircraft (905) on its way to Tulsa, OK. The Enterprise was being ferried from the Kennedy Space Center to Vandenberg AFB in California over the course of seven days in a public relations tour. The public was allowed to get very close to the pair of crafts the previous day. The Enterprise never flew in space, but tests using it led to the very successful program.
