He was the first britain to be killed in a flying accident. He was killed during a flying display near Bourmouth when the tail of his Wright Flyer broke off. He was 32. Charles was a motoring and aviation pioneer co-founding the Rolls-Royce car manufactoring firm. He was a founding member of the Royal Aero Club in 1903.
