This is the nickname I give to this lanternfly because of its long "nose". The scientific name is Pyrops candelaria or Fulgora candelaria. The long red "nose" is actually its proboscis. The lanternfly pierces with it into tree trunk to drink its sap and despite its common name it does not emit light. Its favorite trees are lychee and longan both bear sweet juicy fruits.
