Wild bird/s

Challenge #5 in the Wild animals series. Hosted by Kris Bell.
Challenge has finished
Show off your best picture of a bird (or birds) in its natural environment. Try to be as original as possible - perhaps an unusual crop on the feet, or a wide-angle habitat shot where the bird is only a small (but integral) component of the overall picture. Please also include the species name and approximate location.

This is a tiny jewel of a bird a little bit larger than a hummingbird. This photo is of an adolescent bird in the process of moulting into its adult plummage.

Focal length: 500 mm
Shutter speed: 1/320 sec
Aperture: F8
ISO: 100
Notes: Sigma SD-14 camera body with Foveon sensor hooked up to Leica MR-Telyt-R 500mm f/8 mirror lens. One tends to have a love/relationship with this lens as it is so dark and difficult to use, but the results can be spectacular if you hit the focus just right
