The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse of North Carolina.
Submitted: Tuesday, 18th October, 2011 02:04 (GMT)
Taken: Friday, 29th July, 2011
Focal length: 10 mm
Shutter speed: 120 sec
Aperture: F4
ISO: 800
Notes: Not content with just silhouettes, my goal was to expose the lighthouse and foreground without long star trails. Since this is difficult, at least on a lens with a maximum aperture of f/4 and an aging body where ISO 800 is pushing it, I painstakingly cloned away some lengthy star trails in post to create pinpoint stars; all from a single exposure.
