Northern Saw-whet owl

This is one of the smallest north american owls, only about 4 inches tall. This particular owl was roosting for the day in a very tightly enclosed area in some dense evergreen trees. The only viewing angle for a decent picture was 12 feet up in a nearby tree. I spent 2-3 hours in that tree shooting one handed (hanging on with the other), waiting for a decent pose to get this shot.
