Shot during a cold snap in Vancouver, host city for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The ice isn't frozen sea water but fresh water than runs into Coal Harbour from a salmon stream in Stanley Park. The fresh water remains in a strata on top of the sea water. It froze, then as the tide ran out that layer of ice broke over rocks on the beach. The sound of a slowly cracking sheet of ice is long and eirey.
