Mean Streets
Challenge has finished
People on the streets. Many of them lead difficult, demanding lives, and it shows in their eyes, on their faces, their wrinkles, their smiles, their gaze. They might be old, they might just look old. Weather-beaten, tired, physically stressed. Yet they are dignified, proud, and (usually) strong. Show us their portrait, taken on their home turf, the Mean Streets.

While biking early one morning around Key West, I encountered The Captain who was fall down drunk at 7:30 a.m. I chatted him up learned he was a marine and Vietnam vet. I shook his hand and thanked him for putting his life on the line so I could be free to wander around with my Nikon. I couldn't help but ponder the path his life took to get him from newborn infancy holding a bottle while in his mother's loving arms to fall down drunk after serving our country holding a bottle in the mean street
